Shaw is an interesting one. He did have them playing competitively. From what the stories said, he got so burnt out by pretty much having to do everything at the club. Brad Scott talked about that when he came to us, said at North he had to be involved in everything and it is really exhausting to do all the meetings, be the face, guide the players, make a game plan, being heavily involved in recruiting and list management, on and on it went.
Shaw completely collapsed under the weight of it trying to carry it all alone, his mental health went south very quickly. They brought in Noble and their onfield fell apart and Noble was blamed. But as has been proven the whole clubs stinks and the onfield simply reflects that.

It definitely does. It was only two weeks ago. And it’ll return after our next loss.
The difference is there’s some (albeit little) back and forth in our Dodoro, Heppell, Kelly, This club is farked and Laverde threads.
With North it’s just their 5 members agreeeing with each other.

He has no scrutiny and if he can win a few games he is a genius and if they don’t he can blame everyone else.

If those are the numbers, that is staggering. Simply irresponsible by Nth to dish that out when the club needs development coaches.

I am assuming Nth are not paying over the soft cap for additional resources.
They have had to go in light on their support staff because of Clarkson’s salary. And they can’t afford to exceed the soft cap and pay luxury taxes. In terms of his remuneration, he had them over a barrel, plus his CV is one that would command big dollars. Ultimately they’ve paid it and it remains to be seen if he provides a return on investment.

Was this deal done before the changes to coach payouts??? I thought that all coaches now only receive 6 months pay if they get let go.
Also, 1.6M seems crazy. Expected him to be on around 800k-1M
If the money is guaranteed there is no way in hell he’ll ever quit/retire. No doubt he’ll have a good amount of coin from his footy career but an additional 8M on top of that is life changing for him & his family. Set up a trust for future generations.

It’s legit I’ve been told and he has no early payout clause in his contract ie North or the AFL are on the hook for 100% of his contract if he left now with 3 years to go he gets the lot

List of reasonably talented kids, but no experience to guide them.
Sold off their talented experienced players.
Cleared anyone else with any experience.
Barely/fleetingly competitive.
Propped-up by AwFuL handouts.
The minute the AwFuL either overtly (or by stealth) turn off the tap, they will be absolutely gone.
Them winning the Harley Reid Cup is one of the most spectacular own-goals of all time.

Tom Browne (yes I know) reported this figure, people here shat all over it, particularly when it was suggested how much it would impact Norths soft cap and ability to get additional resources.
Clarkson denied it in a round about way but I have no doubt it’s true.
Even without the racism stuff, this was always going to go to ■■■■.
