My Prediction

I speak for all Essendon fans when I say “Thank goodness we have seen the back of Matt Taberner”, also thank goodness we didn’t pick him up, he feels like the sort of player we would give three years on the list. Maybe we have learned something from the Weideman disaster. Anyhow… Fremantle, as someone who grew up in Western Australia, I would much rather they have some sort of success than their pathetic friends from across town.

The backline held up well last year and even with some injury challenges which shows they have good structure and depth. They found a player in Draper, they have Pearce who is a quality stopper supported by Cox and Chapman. They get run from Ryan and Clark. They performed well last year in challenging circumstances.

The midfield is coming into something that looks very impressive. Bolton moving through from the half forward line will give them something different. Serong and Brayshaw are a very good one-two punch and then you look at Hayden Young who keeps getting better (and has the monster contract to prove it). They have some selection challenges and will be interesting to see what they do with Fyfe and if he can get a regular game in the starting 22.

The forward line has been the weakest area on the field. Amiss went amissing (sorry) for large periods of last year but that is expected at his age and think he will be stronger this year. Treacy looked like a very good player and they have quality smalls in Walters, Switkowski, Frederick and Bolton. The forward line on paper at least looks very dynamic. They will need Jackson and Darcy to rotate through the forward line and I think Jackson looks capable as a forward whilst Darcy not so much.

The Dockers are a two ruck team. Darcy is a better ruck than Jackson, but Jackson is a better midfielder/forward that Darcy. They need to find a way for both of them to play well together. If they cant then expect Darcy to be on the trade table at the end of the year. Jackson is too good a player to sacrifice his game. The coach is still in limbo. Last year of his contract after a one year extension last year. He needs to play finals this year or move into commentary next year.

The Dockers have all the pieces to challenge not just for finals but top four and should be a legitimate contender for the premiership. They have added class and they have a very even balance across the field. They should be a serious improver this year. I think they finish in the 3-6 range.

Need to finish top 6 minimum and at least 1 finals win. List is a lot better than i gave it credit for.

Can and should push for top 4 if they can stay fit.

They are really hard to predict.

On paper, they should be pushing top 4. Well balanced list and a great home town advantage. But they challenge Essendon for being competition leaders in flakiness when it matters.

I’m going to say 3-10. Big range but I just can’t put any confidence in what they produce week to week.

Key off-season ins: Shai Bolton
Key off-season outs: Matthew Taberner, Ethan Hughes

Surprising Michael Walters still rolling around. Imagine if Walla had his longevity.
I rate Treacy, they have 3 good tall forwards with VOSS a decent backup option.
Shai Bolton should fit right in and be dangerous. Fyfe past his best, will see if he gets exposed, but will throw in the odd good game. Jackson is exiting and dynamic from the ruck I probably prefer him as main ruck and would have traded Darcy.

I still expect Freo to be strong at home and susceptible away from home.
Finish 5-10th

Agree with all of this. Anything less than top 6 and it a borderline fail for them. They have all the pieces in place that they need and should be serious contenders.

Good write up, my only concern is their midfield is too small so will get bashed up in finals like they did late in the season, but it’s a pretty talented team across the park.

If i were Freo I’d ditch Longmuir, get someone like a longmire over and move heaven and earth to bring in Warner. If they do that, 2026 they should be flag favourites.

Fremantl’e biggest issue is their lack of skill and decision-making in tight situations. You only have to watch their last 15 minutes against Power in Round 23 when they could not hit the side of a barn door.

Don’t rate ‘em.
Don’t see them as anything other than the middest of mid table at best on any line.

Good rucks.
The rest are almost could be maybe kinda good.

They’re the type of team that I’d always give us a chance against them at home no matter how we were playing.

Im with Wimm.

Dont get the hype, they are with us and about 8 others that will sit in the 7-14 range.

I have them top 4, if they have a good run with injuries they could do a brissie.
Bolton to kick 40+ and provide the X factor they need.

It’s Tom Morris and Jon Ralph reporting so expect Chad to sign a 7 year contract extension at Sydney in the next few weeks.

I rate Tom Morris, Ralph on the other hand is a head office sycophant. I thought Warner was playing golf with eagles staff. I do hope he gets to Freo though, they are one of a few i wouldn’t mind winning a flag if it’s not to be us.

Paying for hotels for players almost seems like it should be under the cap though.

Didn’t the blues fly Shiel down on a private jet and feed him cavier.
