Should I buy a pool?

Have had a few mates use Narellan and have heard nothing but good things. They’re probably the best in the area by all accounts.

Unless you live in WA, where they withdraw the subsidies after 6.66kW.

Although I mentioned rebates, I don’t think subsidies make the difference between solar panels being viable or not anymore. They just make a difference in how many years they take to pay for themselves. And with the continuing increases in energy prices, and likely larger inflation over the next few years, they are very likely to pay themselves off quicker than initial estimates.

Was thinking the same thing. this move towards renewables will make electricity quite expensive in the short term.

To be more specific: if you have more than 6.66kW in WA, you are not allowed to send excess power to the grid. So unless you have a big battery (still pretty poor value for money) you better have a way to use all that power during the day.

Geelong ??

They have the best pool in Victoria

Pool heater in the day would be a good use of that power.

And the subsidies before that are SFA.

We are doing a knockdown and rebuild and are putting in a fiberglass pool. We ordered a pool through PJ Pools (their office is in Dandenong) back in March, before we moved out and demolished in July/August.
PJ Pools ordered the pool from Summertime Pools, who delivered it to a pool storage site as our site wasn’t ready (we hadn’t demolished) but they were ready as promised.
Basically the site was finally ready 22nd August and they dug the hole 1st Sept and the shell was delivered yesterday 2nd Sept. Next week they will finish backfilling it and concrete around the edge, at which point we will put a lid on it and hand the site over to our builder.
We are still probably 14 months away from having a swim in it and getting landscaping done (just paving and a glass fence around it) but so far the company has been great to deal with, and very professional. Not sure what I was expecting but it’s a pretty big job and they seem to have all the bases covered.
Just thought I’d share and happy to answer any questions about the process so far.

That’s awesome, we are probably a month or two away. Very similar pool to yours as-well, same shape. Keep me posted on the project. I’ll provide photo’s as well when it’s time.

Just a last word of advice for both @Clone_Hirdy and @wannabe , when they put the pool in and after filling it, make sure you follow the instructions regarding watering in the soil surrounding the pool prior to installing paving or concrete surrounds. You need to get that soil to compact down tight otherwise your paving will sink or your concrete may crack. This happens because as tou use your pool as you get out, you drop water which soaks in to the soil surrounding the pool. Also, generally speaking paving and concrete slope towards the pool to help minimise water loss. Over time, that water flowing in compacts the soil more and more. If you haven’t compacted it well prior to paving you could easily get drops of 5-6 inches. You may also end up with a cavity behind the wall/floor which could become a weak spot over time. The easiest way is a length of 10-15mm pvc pipe attached to your hose with multiple holes drilled in it. Poke it in to the soil every 12 inches or so and let it run slowly for a couple of minutes. Work your way around the pool, making sure you angle it in towards the bottom of the pool to get the best result. Don’t go crazy though, take you time and do it over 4-5 days to give the soil a chance to drop and compact between runs.

Thanks. It will be 12 months from now until we do the paving, but I’ll discuss this with the landscaper during the planning.

PJ pools did the pool at my display home. Really good job. Gets lots of positive of comments and guests are always asking who did it.
