Cox and Draper have both been overrated. Both have huge deficiencies (Cox has the worst attributes of both a tall and small, not the other way around; Draper doesn’t know how to play the game).
Those two aren’t culture; those two are overrated and over - relied upon… they were not great pick ups
Nice emotive argument but a bit too much hyperbole to take your reponse seriously.
What’s wrong with expecting finals each year? It is a sport played to win. Talking down the expected performance of the club at the start of the year is akin to accepting mediocrity: if you set the bar low and then do better than what, 16th you get to say again, ‘oh wow, we over-achieved’. That is barracking for St Kilda or Fitzroy (remember them).
And given you asked: I wouldn’t play Heppell, no. His best football is behind him. If he wasn’t captain he would seriously be in the gun in the wider press. He is clogging up the backline rather than adding to it.
And perhaps Dale Tapping would be a good senior coach. He’s certainly got a decade or two more coaching experience than Rutten.
A bloke who was 36 with a few years of being in the right place at the right time to be an assistant coach at a premiership winning club isn’t the kind of experience one would usually think enough to lead an AFL club; but the EFC Board thought otherwise. By crikey I hope they are right in due course, but I’m not seeing it.
As to the approx 15 other arguments of the straw man kind you’ve made up and try to attribute to me in order to justify your rant; nice work - keep having the argument with yourself
“accepting mediocrity” is one of the fkn laziest arguments I’ve ever seen. People who think we are entitled to success over every other team because “we r essendun” begin throwing tantrums because the process to build a team to win a flag takes time, and they want to win right now. The club then starts trying to take shortcuts to try and appease these sooks, and we eventually end up back at square one.
Agreed. No club is entitled to expect success. And I don’t think Essendon is entitled to it ‘because we are Essendon’. You’ve got that all wrong.
Every fan is entited to have high hopes. A little delusion, aka ‘hope’, keeps people alive mate, whether believing in a sporting team, or in the deity of your choice too.
If you or your mate Minion want to be happy with accepting what, bottom four(?) this year as the ex-ante ‘par score’ for 2022 and maybe one day we’ll be back in the Grand Final well OK, that’s your approach.
But I HATE seeing that vision of our players laughing and joking… sums it up… they just got their ■■■ spanked and they are happily having a catch up with mates. They are loving life right now. Put em in a cannon and go and get some kids who actually want to play. Martin has just about been our best player.
The whole club has a serious attitude problem. I want pretzels flying… I want a filthy, dirty, angry playing list moping off the ground in disgust…
When I was playing I knew of a couple of blokes that jumped off a table to rupture it completely but the scientific evidence since then was that it wasn’t a good idea and no guarantee to fix it
McLure is a next level fckwit, even compared to Cornes. But the clips are selective and completely out of context after the siren.
Just before talking to the Dockers player, Jye definitely had a sour look on his face. Maybe he was just been friendly.
Don’t want to see him hung over that 15 seconds alone.
It’s not even comparable to Dys and Myers from a few years ago. That was ordinary.
Some days you’ve just gotta laugh Barnz. I admire the passion and get some laughs out of the unusual arguments; theirs and mine.
But after a decade of average performance, it does seem odd that you’d hire a rookie Senior Coach, retain a CEO who is a long way removed from presiding over a period of sustained success at his organisation, and have a Board Chair who is the remnant of the Board in place when the Club blew itself up a decade ago. None of that makes much sense.
