Something seriously wrong with the club (Part 2, March 2022)

Yeh Cousins you should have spent more time improving your 1%ers, beep test scores, non-dominant side disposals, and then laced up ya boots and tested your luck in the draft

Your argument is seriously that we got the James Hird appointment right?

He ended up in hospital with his reputation and career ruined.

We hired an inexperienced coach and didn’t put the infrastructure in place to support him. It was a disaster.

And bomber, he was either on the gear when we appointed him, or got on the gear because of what we did to him. Another disaster.

Yet ■■■■ said those at club thought last year was likely an overachievement and people here thought it showed we aren’t ruthless enough.

I mean we literally broke our last two premiership captains by appointing them to roles. Nearly destroyed both of them professionally and personally and that’s evidence of good governance.

Agreed. I’m sure the people on the Board and the CEO are working to make good decisions in a diligent manner. But that doesn’t guarantee that their decisions are panning out well. Like it or not [cliche coming] it is a ‘wins-oriented industry’. If the Board remains stagnant and thinking they can get those decisions about executive and senior appointments right with their next choice, after the last few choices they made didn’t work out, then you have to ask, have they lost perspective?

So it does have something to do with democracy when you consider how the Board is being composed. If those at the top are open to regular scrutiny via the ballot box it is a good thing.

Also, It is incorrect to jump to the conclusion that any reasonable and legitimate member scrutiny is branded as a ‘member revolt’ or ‘revolution’. That (deliberately?) misses the nuance and fails to address the question of how Directors come to be on the Board (and stay on it), and the need for scrutiny of Board performance.

A regular turnover of Directors is a more than reasonable suggestion for the health of Essendon or any organisation. It provides a freshness of ideas and perspectives, and humility.

Are you trying to rewrite history ?

James Hird was a very capable coach, and he was the correct person for the job. Better men than him have been hoodwinked by crooks and scoundrels.

Mark Thompson was a more than capable premiership winning coach and again was the correct person for the job.

What point are you trying to make ? The drugs saga happened in spite of Hird and Thompson being great coaches.

Melbourne played in a pre lim final then finished bottom 4 the following year

After playing finals last year and now looking likely finishing bottom 4 I hope/pray that it could be the kick up the bum they need

I hope James Hird stays away from the EFC for his own health and safety.

He has given enough of himself to this club.

Will be honest and say I love the club, otherwise I wouldn’t watch week in, week out BUT I truly HATE what the club has become.

The in game issues stem back to round 1 2019 where we put in that putrid performance against GWS.

Then doggies later than year - 20 goals unanswered.

Many games in 2020.

Capitulation in round 1 2021.

2nd half in elimination final 2021.

Round 1 2022.

And now freo game.

So many pea hearts playing for us.

Interesting that one of the theories is there is “toxic in fighting” between the playing group

I don’t agree. We supported him with a 2 time premiership coach. The club made a bad call with Dank, but I don’t put this down to Hirds ability to coach.

Well Daisy should back that up with some specifics, or Fark right off.

We all know we were ■■■■, and can see the problems with the performance, but if Daisy wants to just mention things like that in general without examples, its just media ■■■■ stirring.

I saw Parish at Fantastic Furniture. It’s the first time I saw him doing this live and I can’t help but think that his poor performance is due to a toxic plot by Fantastic to undermine Amarts position in the furniture industry.
