We were so woefully abysmal the whole time in the QLD hub in 2020.
I foolishly thought after 2021 we had moved beyond it. Now we’re back here again such a joke. Might as well have played that Lloyd sound grab last night on FC. Same ■■■■ different day.
I feel like something has to give at some point and it might all come falling down soon if we continue on like this. Every ■■■■ defeat just adds to the already enormous pressure on the club.
Supporters have never been more disillusioned and angry and there has to be a breaking point soon.
By ignoring us or not responding, the club are not doing themselves any favours. Only doing harm to their brand.
Things can go one of two ways at the end of this season.
Do way give into the public pressure and ■■■■ ourselves that we might lose a few sponsors and therefore respond by making short term decisions to ‘make us more competitive again as quickly as possible’?
That’s code for make a few quick fix trades and free agency moves to help us get back up to 7th to 10th again.
Or do we withstand the corporate noise and ■■■■■■ off supporters and actually have a view to the long term and take our medicine?
Sidenote: I’m a ■■■■■■ off supporter but I’m also up for the pain if we do this right and if it were spelled out clearly to supporters.
The club needs to make a move and quick or we end up losing a generation of young fans to go with the older fans jumping off in droves.
Sack X and Dodoro to start, then look at if Clarkson is available and go hard!
We need someone who has some mongrel and isn’t afraid to drop players and give critical feedback.
Truck seems to be enabling the mediocrity by half-assedly dropping blokes only to make them the sub.
That would look good, we get thrown under the bus by them and then they become our saviour nah ■■■■ that, rather sink the club first before get their help
Clarkson plays favourites with veterans and his sides topped up for years to finish mid table. If I was him, I would want little to do with a rebuild too.
Listening to lunchtime podcast, yes, it’s not about giving people a tongue lashing - the days of that are over and it’s not professional. We want our players to be professional and we can’t expect them to be professional if we don’t manage them professionally.
But professional management includes going through all the game footage and identifying individual decisions made in the game - eg poor efforts to get to a contest, poor disposal decisions, poor compliance to the game plan, poor running to make position. Where is the bit where players are held accountable to the decisions that they are making during games, and talking through how it will be better next time. Where’s the expectation of a culture of excellence, excellence in effort, excellence in supporting team mates. I’m not slashing my wrists, but it is over time for genuine straight talking is needed in the club and how we can take the talent on our list (I don’t think our list is complete crap) and go out there and execute.
Even when I go out and do recreational sport, I want to do the best I can - and learn to continuously improve, surely this club can capture at least this attitude when it goes out to the field.
The current board and coteries have many investments together for there to be any major shifts, even Shiel is in on the act with Casey Capital.
A winning team or even half competent team that looks to have a future means 90% of people couldn’t give a rats about how the execs are functioning. For us to do that we would need to overthrow the GM of List & Recruiting, but I’m pretty sure he is in on the property investments with the board and coteries…
The only way you’re getting any meaningful change out of this club is to do what football fans in Europe do and that’s boycott, threaten board members, turn up to training in numbers, etc etc, all things that Australian sports fans do not do (and I’m not condoning we do either).
You could also not renew memberships and not turn up to games but for some reason we’re at our loudest and proudest when we’re at our lowest.
There’s the problem, we are too nice and too civilised in this country and it’s not in our culture. We let these people get away with anything. Over there, football is life or death for them.
We do not deserve priority picks and it would not solve any of our problems.
We had at least half a dozen if not more first round draft picks running around doing not a lot on Sunday night. Extra draft picks will not solve anything with what is culturally wrong with our club.
Ferguson was a winner right up until retirement and then it all fell apart. I compare us more to Arsenal. Had an almost perfect season and set the bar so high, it was almost impossible to replicate, didn’t capitalise on that dominance, fell away and haven’t been back since.
Doesn’t matter what they say, they are 2 highest positions in the club and they need to be front and centre. Give us their thoughts on what’s happening, and why. We might not buy it, but they’re not put in these positions to sit back silently and wait for the good times to roll on.
