Something seriously wrong with the club (Part 2, March 2022)

I said many years ago that, once drafted, all a player has to do is not be one of the worst three or four on the list and they will keep getting paid more than any of us without having to care about the club anywhere near as much as most of us do. They play bruise-free and care-free.

Club couldn’t of picked a worse time to suck with it being a “anniversary year”.

I really do feel things are on a bit of a knifes edge. Especially supporter wise. It was starting to get a bit ugly in the crowd during that 3rd qtr. Fans are starting to drop off in a big way. If we didn’t have Anzac Day this week, we would be lucky to get 20k to the game.

I can probably answer this one.

Can only speak for myself, I was encouraged to run for re-election by the board of the time at the end of 2017. Sean Wellman and Katie Lio beat me, I finished third in an election for two seats. I tried hard, I lost.
Things were looking very positive for the club at the time so there was a fair bit of member apathy when it came to voting and vote numbers were well down, as is the way. I lost to Katie by about a hundred votes and to Sean by about a thousand from memory.
All feels a very long time ago now.

Run again, you’d get the votes.

I want someone appointed who can evaluate how the club is operating, without the burden of player coaching etc.

The head coach is a completely seperate thing.

Anytime you’re up against an ex-player, you have a small chance.
Add to it that it’s an ex-premiership player and it’s virtually no hope.
Wellman was at the club during the saga and still was a walk in vote getter.

This is all just the luck of the draw, amazing we have managed to draw 17 teams better than us to play, dam afl conspiracies.

Just an embarassment of a season, not that we can be surprised.

Sack the boys club, clean out and start over while the young group can still be positively influenced.

This is - ALL BOARD members from SAGA era can fark right off.
Coach panel full review and recruit a coach propoerly - no private planes, succession plans BS.
New recruiting department.
And maybe, just maybe, employee professionals in the areas of fitness and player development pls.

Players - anyone and everyone can be traded, who cares, we’ve had so many leave what would a few more matter. Only committed players needed, those who will bring the young guys through.

Get a proper VFL setup that will develop those in the twos, the shambles down there will only hold us back more.

Fark, that’s a lot of work… and pretty much we’ve been ignoring it all for the longest time.

Happy 150th!

Edit: I look forward to nothing changing as we wind down the trade week clock trying to land the Great While whale that will rescue us and either overpaying or once again missing out. Whilst the other teams set about improving draft hands, targeting recruits and building their list.

it’s culture.

The culture is ■■■■.

We can blame Disco but players fall off alarmingly the longer they have been at the club.

Nick Cox has gone from looking like a monty to win the rising star to I cringe every time he goes near it.

Sam Draper has gone from being the next Max Max Gawn to Zach Clarke.

our prefect midfield are a pack of front runners who don’t look like they have any care for consequences of half efforts.

it’s once they come through the door that’s the problem.

Really worried how bad it will be for the celebration game against FC. Embarrassing.

I agree, and yet a refresh of recruiting approaches and thinking is probs overdue.

I have been following Essendon for over 50 years and this must be the most pathetic preseason (relative to other teams) I have seen. I am 56, run 45 km per week and I think I could outrun some of those guys. The soft tissue injuries, the can’t be stuffed attitude when things go wrong - what the hell did they do over summer?

Speaking of being 56, I am in danger of never seeing Essendon win another final in my lifetime. Who would have thought back in 2000 that we would get to this point? I have no confidence that there is anyone at the club capable of turning this around.

Was Wellman at the Club in 2012? (Goodwin was)

I’ve had a spinal fusion and a debilitating chronic illness which my doctor told me 20 years ago i wouldn’t be able to work and I could chase the opposition down better than these chumps. They like being football players aren’t really interested in doing what it takes to be the best.

Despite a pretty big turnaround during my tenure post saga between 16-17 and things looking positive for the club for the first time in a while the members told me they didn’t want me on the board - I wasn’t going to ask twice.
That election campaign pre and post was one of the more unpleasant and disappointing months of my life.

I still can’t believe our dumb ■■■■ members voted in a mortgage broker.

The list would wet themselves which would be followed by an apology from X.

I have been a member for over 20 years and would have always said that i bleed red and black, it would take me till mid week to get over a bomber loss, I now have no such emotion. I miss feeling emotion for this club, its sad.

I’m also 56, but I wouldn’t have run 45km in my whole life combined.
