I don’t see a big difference between our game plan and that of nearly all other teams bar a few, except for a few tweaks here and there.
What I do see is a youthful team that is unable to implement the game plan consistently over 4 quarters, or for long enough in one quarter when the heat is on, and a team lacking onfield leadership with resilience and grunt.
A coaching group that lacks game day awareness, initiative and dare, but this may be by design at this stage of development.

OUR DONS ARE GOING NOWHERE

(apologies to David Byrne)

20.8.2022

We don’t know where we’re going
And we don’t like where we’ve been
We don’t know what’s worth knowing
And we don’t like what we’ve seen

We play like little children
We don’t know our game plan
Rutten’s future not certain
Will James Hird be our main man?

We’re on a road to nowhere
No leader in sight
Taking that ride to nowhere
We don’t even fight

Not feeling okay this morning
Clarkson said no
Not going to pay admission price
Why should we go? Clarkson said no

Maybe you wonder where we are
We do as well
This century when we’re on a slide
Take us where? Down to hell

Our dons are going nowhere
Our dons are going nowhere
Our dons are going nowhere

Premierships on our mind?
Can’t sing our song, too far behind
And it’s not right, bombers it’s not right

Oh, it’s very far away
And getting further day by day
Flag out of sight, bombers it’s not right

Would you like to change the board?
And give the club an overhaul?
Coz it’s not right, bombers it’s not right

They’ll do internal review
And try to sell a seat to you
But it’s not right, bombers it’s not right

Our dons are going nowhere
Our dons are going nowhere
Our dons are going nowhere
We’re on the road to nowhere

I don’t know just this corporation with over 80,000 worker owners and over €12 billion in revenue.

What are they saying?

What did they say?

So I’ve been posted since May that we seriously needed to get rid of Rutten and X and, in essence, due an external review. One of my biggest reasons was that we could give Cara a decent ā€˜run’ in the chair, salvage something from the wreckage of another wasted season AND be in better shape to pursue the ā€˜best coach available’… especially if that was Clarkson.

Got flamed by some but time has only strengthened that it was the correct call.

Now we sit… Cara is the forgotten man of the coaching world after suddenly, and still inexplicably, gone from ā€œnext in lineā€ to a lazy, inept coach that was the cause of all our on field woes… our board has had a public, inept coup leading to more ridicule… we didn’t put a bid in for Clarkson until he had all but signed the contract and even then it was done it the worst way possible… Gia is being tossed up as next choice, seemingly out of nowhere… Yze is taken and was seen as next best… Players are divided… we have had no clear communication or leadership and Rutten is going to lead our team out tonight… knowing there is another board meeting tomorrow that will likely, finally praise be to the lord let it happen… end his dismal pathetic tenure as a coach at this club.

I guess no one could see that coming…

At what point do you acknowledge that this club… is not the club we all have loved and supported but rather just a carcass that uses the same name? Is this shell worth our support? Worth our time and energy? What does it mean to be a supporter? A fan? A member?

If a partner treated you this badly… with this much contempt… would you stay? If a company promised you something and then failed to deliver time and time and time again… would you demand a refund? Your club, my club, our club has not delivered on any of its promises for a very long time. I don’t demand premierships… I understand sport doesn’t work like that… but its promise should be effort… competency… standards and a modicum of success. They have instead delivered nonsense year after year after year.

At what point are we released from our obligations? Yes we promised ā€œtill death do us partā€ but at what point is the promise null and void if they fail to fulfill their vows? When can we ask whether following this club brings us joy? Do you look forward to game time with excitement or dread? Like a gambler watching their winnings go down… do you now feel pot committed and thus lose it all? We are all the definition of ā€˜rusted on’ supporters… you don’t post of a footy forum unless you are dedicated… but when does the rust finally eat through and snap off?

I don’t see a path back for us. There is no shining light. I see disunity, lack of leadership at every single level of the club… our list has holes big enough to drive a bus through and there will be plenty more after the trade period as anyone with a brain/talent/skills will leave this car crash. We sit hours away from the end of the career of a ā€˜great’ EFC man… who was capped AA twice and seen at different points as the best backman of the comp… and yet he hangs up the boots without even a finals win. Just let that sink in.

So yep… the sheep will file into the MCG tonight and clap and cheer as we get demolished by the second string of a hated rival that is heading towards yet another finals campaign… and the board will do its review and we will change our fitness guy… and absolutely nothing will change. Good luck to all. We can only hope that something so bad happens (like every single player refusing to play for us) that we are finally forced to accept a bail out and let a competent administration can come in and clean the place out.

We dodged a bullet with Clarkson…

My problem with this is that he has been on the board since 2015, how have none of these great operational plans helped us to date. I just see him as another Paul Brasher. Long time board member that has achieved nothing!

I just think he is good coach and if it wasn’t for the bull shirt saga he would of been successful at least got us the preliminary finals consistently with the squad he had.

Baa baa baa

My guess ā€œEssendon, culture, Rutten, unfairā€ etc.

Is it possible at all that the club can move back to windy hill?
