Something seriously wrong with the club (Part 3, August 2022)

I think I should thank the club for helping me improve my emotional resilience so much this year.

My son (a Geelong supporter) has been talking all morning about how good Geelong is in pressure situations. Thanks to all the practice I have had this year, I have been able to zone out and feel nothing.

I feel sad for what all us Essendon supporters have had to go through these past 10 years. The club should provide free counselling for all its supporters, but in some ways that is the role Bomberblitz plays in these situations.

Is this a rebuild? Can someone explain why playing Goldstein, Heppell, Shiel fits into that? It lands you 9th. What’s the point?

If the expectation was top up with free agent B graders, Gresham, Dursma and wait for the draftees come good, why is Hobbs, Tsatas, Bryan in the VFL? At least rotate them, Perkins should have been dropped weeks ago.

It wont happen. I dont know when it will happen, but we genuinely do need one. We have never done a proper rebuild.

This is so often overlooked, once it was clear we were on the other side of the “premiership clock” post 2004 that was the time to reset the club. Hanging on to Sheedy for as long as we did cooked the club.

If Brad is who Blitz wants him to be, and is the coach the Club needs him to be, he will front the board within the next fortnight and tell them with brutal honesty that much of the list is not up to it and we need a full rebuild.

The board will then sack him and hire a “bullish” replacement.

He keeps selecting the inept players though.

I’d be asking Merrett which players are actually fair dinkum and which are not. He’s the ruthless one.

He didn’t want to rebuild. Knights did, and it was the plan. Lloyd hated it, so did the rest of them and its been the same ever since

Club is a scandal and frauds they don’t care about their members.

I stopped 3 years ago, you would think member that cancel would be engaged but they just rely on coterie groups and new members coming onboard.

Glad you stopped being a member though, we work bloody hard for our money and they all get paid much more than us

An external review was in train, then Barham staged his coup and corrupted the whole process. Why should we expect decisions down the line on appointments to be any less corrupt.

None of the people that work in the membership department follow Essendon. It would have been quicker to just cancel your membership. They couldn’t care less what your opinion of the club is.

Yeah, true, but i just had to get it off my chest. I agree that it won’t really make a difference but I’ve finally done the cancellation and it’s a big step for me.

Good thing I’ve still got Bomberblitz to lurk around in, we are the best community forum out there.

2004 is the sliding doors moment of this club, a 3rd straight semi final exit, aging veterans and 20+ year coach

The end of 2004 was THE TIME to completely reset the club.

The sponsors throw cash at our club based on member base and fan engagement. If people drop their membership en masse the club will be ■■■■■■■■ themselves that we lose sponsors.

We have to vote with our wallets. I’m very conflicted about dropping my membership. I love the jumper but I hate the people running the club, can’t stand what Dodoro stands for, and am tired of watching a disorganised poorly constructed list with some really ■■■■ players on it fail under pressure every year.

I think the only way to fix the club is merge with another and break down the power brokers that have ■■■■■■ our club.

Ive made peace with the fact i won’t be seeing any success and that we are in for Footscray, Melbourne and St Kilda like existence where we fluke a flag once every 25-30 years. I’m now 38 and have spent my whole adult life know “this essendon”.

Same age. We had a great group of players from 1993 to 2000. Pre Dodoro of the PD era. Now in the After Dodoro or AD era.
