I have to admit, I’ve always believed in percentage over ladder position. And in the last few years, I’ve often scoffed at other teams who have been higher than their percentage deserved. I always thought winning games by small margins was pure fluke, and unsustainable. But I watched the Pies create a whole game plan around winning by small margins when games were close, and they got so good at it, they won a premiership on the back of it.

What they did wasn’t just to build resilience and belief, but to practice multiple ways to open the game up, or shut it down when they choose. We have also spent a large chunk of time practicing ways to get over the line late in games. We aren’t as good at it as the Pies, but we’re a lot better than we used to be.

You’re expecting us to fall in a heap late in the season, because ‘history repeats’, but I think for all teams, eventually something changes, and history stops repeating. I see a lot of changes at fundamental levels, which are the sort of changes we need, to improve. We also have better depth in the team, to handle injuries and fatigue, and we have less injuries.

I’m glad no one rates us. They haven’t seen the changes over the last couple of pre-seasons. Many expected us to finish bottom 4. I expected us to finish middle 6. I still do. We aren’t the finished product. But we’re patiently building.

I generally like you and your posting, you at least put effort into what you post, whether I agree or not.

But this post sums up why supporters are scarred and why supporters believe history repeats itself because patterns and cycles happen for a reason.

you thought you saw enough change based off 8 weeks to go on extended posts to prove it.
some of us could see even back when winning, a lot of the same problems were there, all the way through all processes.

people will be scarred next season, esp if they start well. scars don’t go around based on 8 weeks of footy.

That is a fabulous flashback. Thanks for the laugh, if signatures were still around i’d have it on as the reality of being an Essendon supporter. Even last week to win the way we did, get sucked in and then the week after to lose after the siren against a team that hasn’t won away from home in 17 games

I’ll be cancelling my AFL club support option from next year and giving it to GWS.
My wife and 2 kids Ess memberships are also not being renewed.
Let’s start a movement and see if finally we can invoke some meaningful change to this ravaged club

Gold Coast have existed for 14 years and have 3 after the siren goals to win a game. We have 1 since 1897. Unbelievable. But they are a lot more common this century.

If every player in the league were in a pool for all 18 teams to draft a “street fighters” 22, how many from our list would be picked?

Out of 400 players across the league we maybe have 1 or 2 that have the mental and physical competitiveness to be drafted into a team like that.
It’s not development, you can’t develop a potato into a diamond. The only person that’s been at the core of our 25 year rot is the list manager; we won’t go anywhere until he’s gone.

Brads needs to make this year a brutal pre season no more playing around players need to be flogged all summer. its going to be physical and cardio based i want players puking their guts out becuase how hard they are being pushed then send them off to a boot camp.

Goal kicking and tackling will also be a focus over the pre season

It would be an embarrassment to the club if on Friday night we get less then 20,000 at Marvel in Heppells farewell game. Give them that statement.

I just went to the supermarket and put my groceries in on of those paper bags and the bottom fell out. Groceries went everywhere. Reminded me of the Essendon Football Club with the bottom falling out - again.
