Something seriously wrong with the club (Part 3, August 2022)

That doesn’t mean anything.

Where we finished after the final round. THAT means something.

If you can’t finish the year off, then you’re not good enough, no matter how “good” you looked at 'some stages of the year.

Season still alive! Haha

It’s what Brad needs to do. I hope he does…but some of those players are ones that he has regularly picked so I’m concerned he won’t!

Sat top 5 for the majority of the last two years lol

Anyone with more than 1 brain cell knew we we’re the biggest top 4 frauds to ever grace the competition.

There is a reason there is talk of the club throwing Lebron money at Harley reid and its not just his football ability.
His confidence borders on arrogance. He would walk into any football club thinking his gods gift to football and one day he will almost certainly back that up. He wants to be the best in the leauge and drag teams to premerships Dusty Martin like.
We need to import leaders and a few of them.
Competitive, win at all cost players like JHF, SPP, JUH and anyone else with three names. (I miss BZT)
Because we certainly cant develop them ourselves.
Id trade the whole backline for Harley.

It’s interesting you say all this.
you say development takes time, and it does sure, but you have to be developing the right talent for it to be effective.

the last 2 years we have spent time trying to develop kelly, laverde, heppell hind all through the backline, with no actual improvement in any player, no improvement in team performance, and no actual improvement in developing replacements for them, infact one of the only recplacements they had for 3 of those players is not at hawthorn ripping it up.
if anything half of the list has gone backwards development wise.

you say they’ve become a better defensive team, yet are still bottom 4-5 in the comp for scores against, it’s not really substantial improvement beyond the rutten years.
in the last 10 games their lowest score against is 80 against collingwood.
4 games out of those 10 the opposition has scored 80-90 points, the other 6 games is 90 points plus.

so where exactly is the improvement defensively ?

you hypothesis that a coach is randomly changing a gameplan to try and find a decent one every few weeks, and changing players positions to best find where they fit, has there ever actually been a side that does that ?
this club has barely been able to implement one gameplan, and you want to run with scott has tried multiple in the one year, on the fly, and changing everything around personal wise etc etc and it’s had very little hiccups ?

and then you finish off essentially again it takes time to develop, but history shows it can also come together very quickly.
that’s having a bet each way. if we don’t develop quickly you (metaphorical you) get to hide behind, I always said it’ll take time.
if it changes next year it’s like see i told you it can change quickly.

things can change quickly, again if you develop and play the right players.
if you stubbornly continue to play the same old players who have never been successful, above and beyond others, we ain’t going anywhere fast.

this is why it’s hard to take stuff like this seriously when most say it. I got no issue if you just hope things are different and hope it fixes itself quickly.

but you’ve actually used quantifible things that can be easily disproven, say it looks different simply to you, and continue on that things have changed.

Again I got no problem with people hoping for things, hell there was a poster a few weeks ago who said we’d win the last 4, go on to play finals and snag one, and when pushed with evidence as to why that’ unlikely claimed, it’s not logical and it’s totally based on nothing but hope, and there’s no comeback to that, you just wish them well and hope they are right.

but again you’ve tried to quantify your hope with easily provable evidence that it’s not the case, which makes no sense to keep pushing it.

Team simply don’t want to win

I actually think it smacks more of we don’t want to pay the tax for blowing the soft cap.

Based on our percentage, you could make a pretty strong case that we’re actually a worse team than what we served up in the first half of the season.

You’re quote stings because it’s what I’ve been hanging onto at the start of each season for countless years gone past. But before, we always seemed to have an excuse. New coach, embedding the game plan, injuries. I didn’t believe those that said our list was crap - but they’ve been right all along.

The second half of the season is regression to the mean. I believe the first half of the season we were actually serving up something much better than we really are. Yesterday is really who we are. Flashy in patches, not good enough.

One thing I absolutely agree with you is your point on mental resilience. But this has been an issue for years. Winning breeds belief and resilience. And that brings us back to the point that we just have a ■■■■ team.
