Something seriously wrong with the club (Part 3, August 2022)

Get ready for years in the doldrums. This club will be down for a number of years. There is no future for EFC.

Feels like everyone is safe apart from Rutten. The whole we will discuss it Sunday is gutless as they already know the answer.

It would be a good place to start making a stand. Heaven knows we need to at some stage.

Well seems North have got their rivalry that we haven’t really cared about.
We wouldn’t want to be losing to them in the near future.

So according to Cal Twomey the players are piping up that they are not happy about the way the club has handled this.

If you ever needed any proof that the players have big heads and have been given too much say in things, there it is.

STFU and do your job, especially since you had a massive say in your “mates” downfall.

Time to pull these primadonnas back into line.

Got to pick ourselves up now.

Today hasn’t gone our way and it looks 99.9% likely that our current coach will be no more by Sunday night. We knew last Sunday night he couldn’t go on, before the Clarko talk really even began.

We know there are a couple of people still in roles of power at the club that perhaps shouldn’t be but potentially the events of the last week might be the biggest wake up call everyone needs. They may not survive. Who knows. We’ll soon see.

Our list needs work but it certainly isn’t terrible. Right now we are embarrassed and feels like there is no light at the end of the tunnel. Nah. I just can’t cop that. We have got the external review we need and can, perhaps finally, conduct a full scale comprehensive coaching search to see what else is out there.

Always thought our next successful coach wouldn’t be a predictable one. They’ll build their own legacy. The club has handled the past week extremely poorly and it’s now on the football agenda but I think we’ll be a club that many would like to lead.

We wont though.

The thing that I still can’t believe is that we first contacted Clakko on Tuesday!!

Lol, talk about arrogance and a warped sense of reality.

And thats what Clarko would have done. Thats why we need someone like him. Its the inmates running the asylum at the moment. Have been since the saga.
No standards.

Robbo: It’s official — the Bombers are a laughing stock

MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA - AUGUST 14: Ben Rutten, Senior Coach of the Bombers looks dejected after a loss during the 2022 AFL Round 22 match between the Essendon Bombers and the Port Adelaide Power at Marvel Stadium on August 14, 2022 in Melbourne, Australia. (Photo by Michael Willson/AFL Photos via Getty Images)

President gone, coach uncertain and a board facing further upheaval — Essendon is the AFL’s laughing stock and the bloodbath has only just started, writes Mark Robinson.

No statements on the main Essendon website, absolutely nothing at all. Joke.

Uncoachable bunch of players we got aswell. Talent is there, no brain or will power though.

A coach that is a pushover, I do feel sorry for him though.

My purely speculative inference of what’s happened this week:

  • After several weeks of casual conversations someone at board level, most likely Barham, has said to Clarko “right, how serious are you? I’m making a move for the chair, how can we get you to coach us?”
  • Clarko has said something to the effect of “If I don’t have to work for X and I can bring my own people in, I’m in”
  • Barham makes his move and is successful
  • Several meetings occur regarding the football department and the CEO, specifically regarding potential payouts and legalities
  • The board decides for whatever reason, to put X’s sacking into the too-hard basket, and informs Clarko either on Wednesday night or Thursday
  • Clarko ponders briefly then tells North on Thursday night that he’s in
  • Barham holds todays press conference expecting to deliver news, instead he has nothing to offer hence the trainwreck

I don’t think Sheeds’ comments were relevant.

Simultaneously, I believe that prospective coaches and football managers are told

  • X likes to do things a certain way with regards to the football department, don’t step on his toes
  • Players x, y and z are undroppable for a, b, and c reasons.
  • Players 1, 2 and 3 have powerful sponsors, tread carefully
  • “Yeah, but at Essendon we do things a certain way…”

But…didn’t he say that Clarkson should go to North and Essendon will be fine??

The players are very much part of this problem and their lack of self reflection is an indictment.

Yep, if they are complaining- show them the door. Sick of the player power BS.

They are massively at fault for how the year has played out, they have no right to complain one little bit.

I so badly want someone to come in and start smashing some of these players ego’s down to dust

Fck Yeah … as bad a coach as Rutten might be, I’m pretty sure he didn’t say okay boys go out there and embarrass yourself and get flogged by 80 points.

That last performance was so terrible that what could the board do other than call an emergency meeting which resulted in a board spill, it took the players performance to make that happen and so everything that has happened this week kind of comes from what happened last weekend.

As ■■■■ as the game plan is that was dead set unprofessional. Now they are upset about the treatment of the coach they publicly embarrassed on Sunday.

I have ZERO sympathy for the players.
