I think it will be a typical essendon year next year.
With ■■■■ poor selections and a easy draw we scrape our way to a heap of meaningless wins against the bottom sides by under ten points finish 13th and the best player in the draft goes a pick before ours
Drafting or Development. I think the cream rises to the top and we just haven’t nailed our picks. I have been known to be wrong on the rare ocassion though.
6 wins next year would easily surpass all expectations and would require Essendon to play well above its pay grade.
But at least Scott will get a lot more games into Jones on a wing, Cox who knows where, Perkins as a passive spectator and maybe half a dozen games from Reid!
Merrett happy to go to play for Mitchell and hawthorn is a wake-up call to the club to instil a sense of guardianship of the club into our current players. Do these young players even know the history of rivalry between Essendon and Hawthorn? Players like Hird, Watson and even Lloyd are fiercely proud of the club and its history and together with Welsh and others want to see Essendon succeed. If Merrett, the captain, has no sense of pride/ownership then who’s passing the legacy on?
Agree. Culture is created and maintained by the senior people, including players, coaches and the board. Merrett, who I don’t know, seems to have walked a lonely road for a long time. Whether it is right or wrong it could be he is wanting out because of despair.
Looks like the first round will include, from the younger brigade,
Caddy Kako, Roberts, Johnson, Clarke, Vigo, Sharp, Robey, Sweid, Tsatas, May and maybe even Nguyen and Lual.
That’s a fair contingent to go with the more established group like Calders, Durham, Xavier, Reid etc.
Wins next year won’t be any measure of mediocrity.
There’s a host of more important indicators to gauge the direction the club is heading.
A performing medical panel probably at the top.
If young AFL players want to know what winning feels like, then they should be steering well clear of the Essendon Football Club until the turn of the new century.
What i care about is seeing a young team celebrate want them to experience that winning feeling but i guess your just happy for our youngins to enjoy a 13 game losing streak.
