Sorry Saga - Why do we fight?

Pretty sure Lindy Chamberlain was also considered guilty by the majority of the public until cleared in a court of law. The Essendon 34 will always be considered guilty by non Essendon supporters until cleared in a court of law.
Jobe deserves his Brownlow.

You don’t get out much.

Plenty of smart people who didn’t ride every wave of the saga think they’re something between unethical buffoons to stone cold drug cheats.

My point is that nobody cares. The Essendon 34 can live their lives totally unencumbered by the past at this point. Why would they reopen the old wounds… what would it actually bring them? Very little. I seriously doubt any of them care enough.

Unresolved injustice can smoulder and eat away at a person for decades. Especially if it’s over something intertwined with your identity.

Some of the 34 may feel as you describe, but I’m certain at least some would greatly benefit from a huge, clear, very public vindication.

I mean, they’d benefit to the extent that it’d be worth dragging it all up again.

how much bomber and hirdy care about being branded as cheating coaches - and the media circus around that - played out in public very clearly. it almost killed both of them.

Old wounds?
Never forget. Never, ever ■■■■■■■ forgive.

Yup so let’s relive it all?

I know this first-hand. Revisiting this would be absolutely categorically the last thing they would want. The 34 have worked hard to move past it and going back into that furnace for some sort of vengeance would be beyond terrible. Remember the vast majority of them aren’t in football any more and haven’t been for years, and barely anyone involved in their daily lives/new careers even thinks of them as footballers let alone drug cheats… it was a long time ago and it’s over.

And you absolutely, categorically know this how?

Truth is not a synonym for vengeance

You are offering an opinion, which is ok but please don’t push your opinion onto the players. You like me have no idea of every player’s viewpoint.

I have a first hand answer to that. The player I know (long removed relative) used the money to help himself up outside of football. There is no chance he could or would risk having to hand back that money, let alone being sued for contravening the terms of the settlement. This player is very conscious of those terms and simply will not talk about what happened apart from with his immediate family.

That’s exactly what the post I originally responded to was doing.

Apparently, it’s OK for the Chinese swimmers to be cleared and keep their medals. WADA accepted the assurances of the Chinese Olympic Federation - or whatever it’s called - that the drugs entered the swimmers’ bodies due to a hotel kitchen stuff up. No such leniency extended to the EFC players, despite no positive drug tests.
Plus, it’s time Jobe got his Brownlow back.

Wrong.

Not until the AFL/ASADA/WADA come out with a full apology will they ever be unencumbered by this sage. Ever.

He presents his opinions as facts constantly. Then when questioned or shown otherwise sooks it up.

im interested as to how you know this- can you provide an example of how one of the 34 have been recently encumbered?

Can someone please summarize the past 8 years for me?

Is there actually any new evidence?

There never was any evidence which would be admissible in an Australian court. That’s the point.
