I get that, but how can you get the case re-opened/turned around without new evidence?
I may have watched too many CSI shows, but I thought new evidence would need to be supplied to re-open the case. Usually that is DNA, but I assume it’s the same here?
Every opposition supporter thinks were drug cheats, even some Essendon ones.
There is no evidence.
opposition fans demand evidence that we are not guilty.
Dank and weapon shady characters, whatever went on reflects poorly with us.
When you say AFL used essendon as scapegoat to cover up league wide peptide usage, get lumped as a tin foil hat conspiracy theorist.
Only clubs that have felt wrath of afl house feel some sympathy.
CAS didn’t need new evidence to re-try the case. Hell, all they needed was a “preferred starting point” that the players were guilty. Which is kinda the point.
I get what everyone is upset about, but I honestly feel you are all going about this the wrong way. There is nothing you can legally do to prove the players innocence.
Now what can be done is refer to the Netflix special ‘Making a Murderer’. Essendon need to get the creators of that show to create a special similar to that focusing on how the evidence actually leads to the players being innocent.
Everyone believes that Avery is innocent after watching that special.
Appreciate the insight, sincerely. That’s only one of the 34, though. There’s also the coaches. Among that wide group there could be a diversity of opinions/appetites for justice, even at with the legal, financial and stress risks.
I wonder if they have an all-or-none agreement or something.
In any case, what a ■■■■ thing to have to even deal with, intertwined with your experience playing top level professional sport, despite trying to do everything right (the paperwork they requested as a condition of participating in the program).
Im not the one saying how you can/ cant respond or comment on the matter, I dont care, its unimportant. Other posters seem to take more of an issue on what you can/ cant say.
And this is the problem - the silence of the players has been bought. They have been looked after - yes, some reputational damage, but general narrative is that they were victims of Hird/Dank. They are quite happy to let it go.
The most significant ‘loose ends’ that AFL /WADA has had to deal with are 3rd parties - Bruce Francis (FOI requests, noise in press), Alan Hird (noise in press), the supporter that tried to take AFL to court (forget his name), and a few squeaky wheels in the press.
My view is that the most damaged party in the saga is actually the members / supporters of EFC. Our club is forever tarnished. They took our money during 2013 in full knowledge that they were going to throw us out of finals. Our club’s performance on field in 12 years since saga has been rubbish.
No payout for us. And the only apology we got was from Hird, and whilst that was needed, it was needed far more from other parties involved in this clusterfk.
If the thing which I am branded a cheat over occurred over 10 years ago and doesnt really impact my day to day life or prospects work wise, meh, why do I care what people who have nothing to do with me, think?
the new evidence needed to clear the players is to find the invoice for the purchase of thymosin. if it was purchased from a licensed supplier it would’ve surfaced by now.
given it hasn’t been found and dank won’t tell us who he purchased it from, suggests there is no invoice to be found as it was purchased cheap from an unlicensed supplier.
dank was buying cheap thymosin and getting alavi to compound it. he was hiding his suppliers from clear view so CAS&co assumed he was peddling PEDs rather than just skimming profit off the top.
of course it’s outrageous how hird, bomber and the players were held accountable for not checking dank’s suppliers.
If could re do saga again best 2 options would be
1 - say nothing, cleared due to no evidence at all
2 - accept the 3 week penalty like Cronulla did and since won the flag.
Could still have had Hird coach and less instability. taken punishment and moved on quickly in relative terms. still leave a bad taste in mouth, but reduces following numerous court cases and interruped preseasons and coaching tenures.
