Sorry Saga - Why do we fight?

Editorial in the Rage pumping up the National Sports Tribunal, purports to justify use for all sports by citing the Sun and E34 cases.
The Rage states that the local disputes bodies governed by the individual sports were seen to be lacking in either the authority or independence to make the tough decisions.
Waiting for the Rage to do a comparative analysis of the AFL ADT and CAS reports for the E34.
Is the AFL prepared to take it lying down that its tribunals are either corrupt or incompetent?
Also, the article refers to the Essendon players ( cited as 32 players) as being convicted of drugs charges!
Who wrote this piece of rubbish?

Well of course, they would be, because:
a) they have accepted just that for years without demur; and more importantly:
b) the AwFL itself is both corrupt and incompetent.

It’s optional for sporting bodies to join this new tribunal - I suggest some well resourced professional sports will give it a miss.

Reportedly, AFL, NRL, rugby ,soccer, cricket , tennis and netball - which have established procedures in place- have signalled that they will continue to maintain their own systems. Seemingly, athletes in those sports do not acquire any rights to opt in.
But it will fill a void for other sports - mostly Olympic - where athletes are currently forced to CAS as the only tribunal of first instance. It is justifiable on that basis alone- it was unnecessary to trash the existing tribunals.
It also has a general division in addition to doping, which would not deal with on-field incidents. Perhaps it could have a role in bringing the game into disrepute issues…

I worry about the division that may adjudicate on off-field incidents which should be the domain of the relevant sporting body - This will open a ‘pandora’s box.’

still a bit pricey for me but it sounds like it would be very interesting

And rather obtusely believe that because their own tribunal’s decision was ignored and the matter appealed to a ‘higher’ power, they are ensuring their sport is squeaky clean.

ASADA promoting the National Sport Tribunal. The same ASADA that paid WADA to bypass an Australian Tribunal applying Australian legal principles in favour of CAS - an Olympic stacked Tribunal applying Swiss law to an Australian indigenous sport.

that didn’t even investigate the case anyway didn’t want to hear anything that didn’t fit with their already trumped up charges & outcomes

Any other club and it would of been. I think the general public enjoyed seeing the demise of our club no matter what the reason than actually scrutinizing ASADA, WADA protocol

Yep. If it had have been North or the Bulldogs there would have been more public scrutiny.

We were already on the public’s nose at the time with the hiring of Hird and the poaching of Bomba. Opposition supporters were begging for them to fail, especially so after our fast starts in 2011 and 2012. People were lining up to sink the boots in, some were genuinely offended by the prospect that we could have been innocent of doping.

A perfect storm of circumstances in just about every way.

Wasn’t much public scrutiny on Melbourne. The “not guilty” for tanking (to protect commercial interests) but punish the individuals involved.

Agreed.

I can’t speak for everyone but I’ve only ever seen it brought up when others question the AFL’s integrity, not MFC’s. And it’s only brought back to the saga when questioning the decision of the tribunal.

Anyone got link to the “Weapons of Mass destruction” herald sun article from 2012 which outlines the plan by The Weapon and Danks ties to Geelong?

It seems to have been scrubbed from the internet.

You can pick it up posted on big footy - google weapons of mass destruction Geelong and it will take you to the page
