Sorry Saga - Why do we fight?

Something connected to his eminent status in IOC all the credentials to be awarded life memberships- but have no fears, life membership does not carry voting rights.
This, after the carryon about FINA governance and necessary reforms !!!

I can’t even imagine a more arrogant individual than Coates. He has literally reigned over Olympic Sports in this country for 27 years. He has done so with an iron fist and squashed any opposition with no mercy. He ambushed Howard into signing up to International Convention of Anti-Doping in Sport and, as a result, that most invasive and undemocratic document, the WADA Code and it’s Prohibited List.

He is another one of these ā€œold men in grey suitsā€ that institute themselves within organisations, like the IOC, for life and lap up the money and power that surround them, paying little attention to those who put on the show, the athletes.

Surely we have individuals that can facilitate our role within the Olympic movement. And they should be allowed to achieve this without Coates looking over their shoulder. If, as mentioned in Chip LaGrand’s reporting at the Canberra Press Club, Coates has overseen the inclusion into the AOC’s constitution of an ā€œhonorary President’s roleā€ at 200K/annum, then the first job of the new AOC President should be to remove this clause.

What a self-righteous prick. Get on your donkey and ride out of town. And don’t come back.

AOC is awash with funds from the deals it struck with the State and Feds on broadcasting rights etc for the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Sydney secured the Games by buying 2 African votes.
The AOC promotes itself as a self financing NGO incorporated as a Not for Profit.
Charities and NFP Commission does not look into sporting NFPs as I understand jt.
Charities are under tight scrutiny and must be approved for registration. The Commonwealth is attempting to exclude those who engage in any political activism.
Unions are subject to strict conditions and scrutiny.
And how much Fed and State money will flow to the AOC from the Brisbane Games, while Coates gets more into his own pockets.
So much for Christine Holgate gold watches.

Does anyone know if clothier:
A) is/was a registered medical practitioner
B) Got shat on by AHPRA and similar bodies.

I know with absolute certainty that if I started spruiking confidential patient information in ANY forum that wasn’t involved directly in their care (unless was legally compelled to do so) I’d be hung out to dry. Disgusting behaviour his performance and his ā– ā– ā– ā–  weak justification of ā€œI didn’t think it was getting recordedā€.

Clothier not a health professional, was an AFL employee in the Integrity unit - integrity there does not cover doctoring or concealing records or disseminating confidential information.

Was it harcourt I’m thinking of?

Yes. Harcourt was the one who gloatingly put up a photo of Essendon players (some in the photo charged, some not) during a speech that the AFL may or may not have approved, but was overseas so no one will know anyway, right?

Think AFL referred to it as unfortunate.
Unfortunate for the AFL that it was unable to suppress circulation of the proceedings of a conference in Zurich
Harcourt stays on the AFL books.
Harcourt was rewarded with a position chairing a WADA Committee or sub Committee.
Dillon also got rewarded within the AFL for his gold standard performance in charging four EFC with bringing the game into disrepute - had to withdraw then redraft charges after leaking them to the media.

Without any research my understand is that Clothier is a lawyer.

Former legal counsel to Racing Victoria Integrity Unit.

Agree with @DJR. Harcourt is the less arrogant version of Coates. He wears a number of hats including CMO for the AFL, Basketball Australia, Cricket Australia and Medicial Advisor for many International Sports. Apart from his mediocre, premature and damning Zurich presentation in 2013 he takes a seat on the WADA Expert Group Advisory Panel that decide what substances are either added to or removed from the Prohibited List. David Handelsmann is also a member of this ā€œexpertā€ group.

It is hard for me to understand that a person, who has reached such dizzy heights in the world of Sports Medicine and athletics, was able to deliver a scientific paper which was based on uncorroborated evidence and speculative ā€œopinionā€ on substances that were either registered/listed (and therefore safe and effective) or experimental (no evidence of clinical benefit). And all he said was ā€œI didn’t know my presentation was being recordedā€.

And nobody picked up on it. J34 have a copy of your presentation Peter. Would you like a copy?

Pretty sure @Heffsgirl has Harcourt in the cannon

Harcourt could take a leaf out of Bruce Reid’s book of practicing medicine independent of what the AFL or ā– ā– ā– ā–  thinks.
Given how constantly inundated healthcare workers are regarding the importance of patient confidentiality it’s absolute bullshit to use any ā€˜whoopsie’ defences as to how this happened. Should have been considered a very serious breach of confidentiality and managed appropriately.

Bruce Francis’s AAT Hearing due to start today has been postponed again (for the 7th time). This time the lead SIA lawyer, Ex-Olympic swimmer, Emma Johnson, sought and was granted leave because her partner had given birth prematurely.

You couldn’t make this stuff up, could you?

PM considers it reasonable for a Parliamentary Committee to investigate the ABC complaints handling process, as it is a government agency, albeit with an independent charter

  • on that score, why not have one for ASADA?
