Spec/changes for Freo game - Sat 24th June 7.25pm @ Optus (in Perth)

How did Draper train at the open session?

Trained indoors

Mentally he doesn’t let up on them

All leading up to that WC game the theme was “you will get what you deserve”

Last year went over there expecting to win and didn’t show up

This year was in their heads constantly and also we didn’t rest any players for giving youngsters easy game vs WC, and thus maybe giving team wrong mindset. They brought back multiple senior players when otherwise could have left them to following week

I’m confident we will be prepared for Freo coming at us

‘Trust’ lol. Essendon have been untrustworthy for 20 years.
Not one, not two or three, but TWENTY!
We have been an embarrassment for my entire adult life, i cannot and will not put any faith or confidence into the club winning games for a long time, no matter how good things seem.
I agree the season looks good, but 13 games of decent footy isn’t going to erase the doubt of what horrific things this club is capable of. We could easily turn in 10 shocking games to finish the year as a failure.
Most fans need to see us winning finals and big games consistently before we’ll ever start reeling off phrases like ‘trust in our system’ etc.
Proceed with caution. It’s that simple.

Your entire Adult life, why Solly as your sig ?

I have trust in the system.
But I don’t think we’ve vanquished our inner Essington yet.
As I’ve said plenty of times, even Richmond were having their Ninthmond efforts in their premiership year.
Essington will show up again.
This year, next year, the year after.
Hopefully it doesn’t cause us to descend into a month long of rubbish performances like [insert any year from the last 20 here].

This game against Freo is a nothing game.
If we win, it’ll be discredited just like our other wins against teams ‘we should beat’.
If we lose, it’s Essington rearing it’s ugly head again.

Watching first crack, Freo has won 1 out of 17 first quarters.

Similar question was asked to Longmuir in his presser.

You’d think that will be a focus for them. Something we’ll need to really be mindful of.

I was a teenager when he was jumper punching blokes and we were winning flags…

Yeah we were travelling ok until just before half time and then Freo ripped us to shreds. They were running everywhere. Remember it because it was my nephew’s first game and he goes for North because of his teacher and he said if Bombers win he might change to the bombers. Yeah he still goes for North

Last year when we played Freo at Marvel, our whole offensive game plan was completely out of whack. We were just bombing it long to Peter Wright on every occasion, with Alex Pearce wearing him like a glove and Ryan and Cox coming over the top to intercept mark. Hopefully we’re better next week than last year.

Respectfully disagree. A win will be five in the trot, two of them on the road and consolidates a place in the 8.

We were meant to be bottom 4. Everyone of these wins is a statement and reinforces a new attitude under BDB.

No need to apologise, fair question :-)… Was a lifetime ago as an EFC supporter…

They’ve played 17 first quarters this year?

Includes their last three games of the 2022 season.

Lost the first quarter in the elimination final. Also lost the first quarters in rounds 22 and 23.

Only first quarter they’ve won in those 17 games was against the Hawks.

Plus the Semi against the Pies.

Any early news on possible outs?

Draper concerns me. Also heard Stringer might be iffy?

As for ins, does Kelly come back? Is Shiel still not right? Parish a likely starter so I guess Masssimo will make way. Do we give Hunter a go seeing as he’ll be back in front of family and friends, rest Weideman? Does Tex get a chance and what about Bryan or do we persist with Flip?

So many possibilities it’s doing my head in.

Do Melbourne deserve to be in the 8?
