Sponsorship and Sport: Coming to a Head

Alcohol impairs judgement?

Also many licenced premises into very expensive video game parlours of button mashing instead of places to socialise.

I take it you haven’t been to many western Sydney pubs?

Absolutely 100% fkn bang on.

The Australian gambling industry is waaaayyyyy more politically influential than it should be.

The netball case is very interesting and can fully understand why players would not want Gina’s involvement. I guess the conundrum is that Netball struggles to get any meaningful sponsorship as a rule and Netball Australia are incompetent in many areas which he left the governing body with crippling debts and on the verge of collapse whilst at the same time players are pushing for more money as the pay is really chicken feed. Netball Australia have lost close to $8m in the last couple of years so I guess they just saw the $15m sponsorship package from Gina as salvation and didn’t go through due process. My wife was involved with Netball SA for a long time and still has interaction with folk there and they are truly and deeply concerned at where Netball is heading in Australia and the handling of it by the state bodies and Netball Australia.

It seems the Diamonds players have reached an agreement between themselves.
They accept the Rinehart sponsorship, but will not have her logo on their uniforms

Hmmm. Isn’t that just wanting to have their cake and eat it too?

My wife said that agreement is only for the current Constellation Cup series and that nothing has been agreed on beyond that yet. NA are firmly in the camp of wanting to retain the sponsorship but would need to get the team on board going forward you would think

Has bf written you into the will yet?

yep, na are in the middle of the biggest bag fumbling in australian sport since, well, rugby aus a few years ago i guess

having almost no money when your sport has 1m+ players is weapons-grade incompetence

-edit- the pro sport market in aus is pretty comfortably the most saturated on planet earth and yet so many orgs act like it isn’t

Reportedly, the main issue is to do with Lang Hancock wanting to ‘ breed out the aborigines’.
They want Gina to distance herself from her father’s views, in respect for an indigenous Diamond.

If only netball were an Olympic sport, it could dip into the AOC money accrued from the media deals it was given for the 2000 Games.

Maybe not practical for less popular sports, but AFL and Cricket Australia could consider the US model of no advertising at all on uniforms. Those media rights deals are still pretty healthy.

Rugby uniforms are the worst for this. Destroys them. Although I play motorsport, so I’m as hypocritical as anyone here.

How long have they been concerned? 12 months? 5 years?

The Woodside contract with the Dockers expires next year, as I think does the Alinta with CA.
I suppose they are getting in early.

He meant it, too. But for clarification, he only wanted to sterilise those who didn’t assimilate. Comply with Lang’s view of how you should behave and he would allow you to breed.

Did you also know he started his own newspaper because he felt the West Australian and Sunday Times weren’t portraying his vision for the state as robustly as he thought they should be? Rupert is devoid of any morality but Lang was next level.

Gina has never distanced herself from her father’s views and given that she lamented the previous government not allowing he to import African mine workers at a significantly discounted rate to what the prevailing arrangement is, I suspect that she would follow through if given the chance.

Why wouldn’t The Diamonds players get behind a sponsor like that?..

Probably at least 5 years. From what she says there has always been infighting and friction between the various state netball governing bodies but NA are a whole new level and very similar to the AFL on their internal appointments and “jobs for the boys” or should I say “jobs for the gals”. They have lurched from one mistake to another and now find themselves in deep strife. At a time when other Women’s sports such as the AFLW, NRLW and cricket are going through a massive surge of interest and prestige it’s not a great time for netball to be wallowing in the mire

LOL

I am a pokies lover. I used to travel to those border towns before John Cain civilised our State, and put my pennies into the slot and pull the handle.

I lived in Sydney and was a Member of every Club that would have me.

As I have many times, it is pure entertainment to me and I am in control, like the 99% of other gamblers.

Anyways, Freo this morning have said bugger off to the complaints and Woodside will remain a Major Sponsor next year
