is antivirus stopping it from opening?

Have turned Norton off and all windows Defender stuff.

I will keep trying. The universe is maybe trying to tell me to stop doing any work and just play in the garden.

restart computer I’m sure you have tried.

can you rebuild the quickbooks file?

what version is it?

I have all data in backup files but the Quickbooks version is 2008 and the data files are not compatible with latest Quickbooks. I never upgraded it as it just continued to work and there was no need. It is strange that it is the only program on my computer that has this problem. Thought it could have been a compatibility issue with a Windows 11 upgrade but seems not.

You might have to ring your accountant.

if its backed up could reinstall it.

Windows 11 upgrade could cause issues qbooks/reckon probably want you to upgrade.

For old files like that better to run on older operating systems. like windows 7 /10 if worked on there.

Have you tried running in emulation mode?

Don’t leave it without Norton running for very long.

Also don’t run it on unsupported quicken versions or operating systems.

Security vulnerabilities and AV & Malwaree protection are important when you have customer data.

I don’t think my router has management software to do this?

I played around with the mesh app and could see connected devices but could assign bandwidth or anything like that.

Yeah because it’s Kogan it probably lacks a lot of features you’d get with more mainstream brands. Only thing I can think of (if you haven’t tried already) is log into the router itself through your browser ( ipconfig/all through a command prompt and get the Default Gateway IP, login details will be on the router itself or in the manual)

That might give you a few more options once you’re in but I can’t say for sure sorry mate, not too familiar with how Kogan’s ecosystems work

just delete system 32

/s

/s for serious suggestion

sudo rm -rf /* fixes everything if you use Linux.

Haha! That is exactly what I was going to say.

But Bacchus, seriously is it a Quicken issue or some scam?

IDK if apples ‘it just works’ thing is valid anymore. already a few complaints about their current phone, and shelts having to go to jbhifi to suffer the embarrassment of returning an item gasp

Probably a Quicken issue because I have using the same version for 16 years and too cheap to pay for upgrades. Norton and Malware picked up nothing, but you are the Genius, I am just a humble microbiologist.

Yes they have gone downhill since Steve Jobs died. But still better than M$ whose bugs annoy me every day.

A science in-joke: that could be translated as “a little bugger”.

Could it be that you need to allow running 32 bit applications?

e.g. can you go to qb32.exe , right click > properties > compatibility > “run this program in compatibility mode for…”

then selecting a few older versions of windows and see if it will run.

windows key
type “command”
right click on commant prompt and choose run as administrator
type in the program location (from your screenshot) and see if it runs

alternatively:
windows key, type regedit, right click and open as administrator
go to hkey_local_machine\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\policies\system
double click enablelua and change the value data to 0, then ok
reboot
try opening

if neither of those work then i dunno, run the hard drive under a cold tap for 30 minutes maybe

next goal after fixing this will be to remove all trace of norton from your system, as it does nothing more than windows defender would (unless you regularly visit unregulated east asian gambling websites) other than slow your system down and randomly spaz out for no reason

^^ THIS!!! ^^
A few years ago, we purchased a home PC which had a 12m Norton subscription thrown in. I made the mistake of installing it. All good to start with. From the very first update onwards though, it snarled the PC entirely. Everything slowed to a snail’s pace, it would freeze constantly, updates (a couple a week) would take hours to download and render the computer inoperable while they were happening.
My old man (the tech guru in the family) traced all the issues to be Norton-related and pulled the damn thing off. Miraculously, everything was remedied. As you’ve also said, he’s always manintained that Norton does very little beyond the standard Windows firewalls etc.
