He was a superstar before his brother passed away.
1993, what a year. I was 16 and an absolute Essendon tragic, kept a scrap book that year which I still have to this day. What an amazing time it was being an Essendon supporter, growing up in Essendon. Me and my mates would get the tram to Essendon station, walk to Windy Hill and sit on the the wall of the bowls club. So many wonderful memories. I remember in 1984 after the siren my father held me up in his hands and said ātake it all in son you never know when it will happen againā it had been 19 years for him. I genuinely believed it was my birthright to support a tough, successful team.
Man, what a dreadful last few decadesā¦. I really wonder whether I will ever see another great Essendon team.
I was 17⦠mate and i no ticket, so headed to windy hill and waited, and waited and eventually bus pulled up with the players which was gold⦠tried to get into social club, nope⦠Mercuris sister? had a chat to whist waiting⦠So⦠waited, and waited⦠early hours of morning in the 711 i think it was on corner of Napier Street to get a 4 day old pie⦠and in come the players, medals around neck to get their copies of the papers⦠we were the kings, got to say hi, touch medalsā¦i recall some of them in the back of a pick up⦠maybe driven by a Daniher ⦠Fletch, Harves ā¦details foggy, long time ago and we had a few under the belt too! More to the story that canāt be shared here that ill hopefully share and have a giggle with them someday. Thanks boys!
I got into the rooms at the MCG after the game, my father knew the doorkeeper. Chatted with the families of the players. The players were all being interviewed by the media.
A few 1993 stars (and later) caught up last night by the looks.
Good to see āBomberā back in the mix.
Who is sitting either side of (I think) Mark Johnson?
Looks like Angus Monfries & Barry Young.
Whose the bloke between McVeigh and Lucas?

He must be under the table because McVeigh and Lucas are in adjacent chairs
