Mercuri is up there with Hird imo.
Was my favourite player as a kid.

All time favourite game. Must have watched it 100 times.
Hirds goal āThats itā¦the Bombers are home!ā
I was there in the Eastern Ranges crew who won Granny. Sitting next to Cupidoās dad.
Was that the one with the really crazy score?
Me? Eastern won easy and Cupido too good at that level.
It was great game to watch from and Essendon point of view because the game was over by quarter time. Could pretty much relax and enjoy it.
The only fly in the ointment was Wanganeen missing that shot after running all the way from the back flank. Would have been right up there with the iconic Long goal.
I reckon Joeyās is my favourite goal too. That boy had natural talent.
Who was instrumental in getting Peverill to the club
It would have been much higher that that. Itās not often an individual does a coast-to-coast!
Colyer about the closest, versus the Hawks?
If time permits, just watch the first quarter. The desperation to win every single contest by the Bombers is what this club is all about - weāve lost it so bad today, but still so good to watch.
Given what was at stake, that Carlton was the favourite, we had a bunch of kids in our team and the monumental effort in the second-half of the PF, Iād say the first quarter of the '93 GF must be up there with the best quarters in the clubās history. It was so, so good, and imagine if weād kicked straight!
Thread from the Watchalong. Its entertaining
If you want to ā ā ā ā off a Collingwood fan, play them the last quarter highlights to hear the āEssEnDonā chant and tell them we invented it.
I believe you mean Mur-Curi.
Geez he was a beauty!
Re that season. I went to Asia for a few weeks mid season. We were on the fringes of the 6 when i left. Probably missed about 5 games (including the jacket waving one). No information of course in those days. I got home and went to the library at Sydney Uni to look at the papersā¦and found us top of the ladder!
Have detailed this before but thought worth repeating
I remember 93 so clearly
Was living in the UK up north near Manchester at the time having spent most of early 90ās backpacking around the world & had to rely on a magazine sent up to me from London that was kind of a monthly news / sports rag from Down Under / NZ (no internet back then kids)
Read all about young kids like Hirdy / Mercs / Joe & Fletch who were playing some great footy for the Bombers
When I called home to find out if weād beaten the Crows to make the GF, I immediately booked a flight back to Sydney then hopped on the overnight train (Southern Aurora?) to Melbourne & got to the MCG early on GF day
Naively thought Iād score a ticket from a scalper into the game as had done so in both 84 + 85 + 90 but it wasnāt looking good
I spent all day walking around the G holding a sign begging for one ticket.
About 20mins before the bounce Iād pretty much given up & started walking over towards the Royal (canāt remember if it had the same appeal back then ) and a tall guy stopped me in the car park. He said āhey mate Iāve got a ticket you can have for $50 except youāll have to sit next to my girlfriend & her mates in the new southern stand cos Iāll be in the Members barā
I looked up and got the shock of my life ā it was Vanda !!
Me & his missus + her 2 (quite hot) girlfriends went in shouts all day & celebrated probably the best Essendon flag Iāve experienced so far this lifetime
I reckon even the Syyyyyd-neeeey crowd was doing it before Collingwood.
Ho oh!! The bombers are hot!
Take me on, take me on, take me on he says and still gets away with it.
