The 2022 Cricket Thread officially here

Just reading an article on Silverwood’s axing. In it is this little nugget…
Richard Dawson, currently overseeing England Young Lions at the Under-19 World Cup where they will play India in Saturday’s final, has emerged as a surprise contender to take charge of the Test squad"

Do they mean that Richard Dawson???

Well, he and Jack Leach would have plenty to talk about anyway. Plenty in common…

Thought Gary Kirsten was the favourite. At least he could converse in Afrikaans with all that up and coming South African youth they have coming through

The one from Hogan’s Heroes who later hosted a US game show?

Going out on a limb but I’m thinking he’s more likely the one Steve Waugh smashed for 4 to bring up a hundred on the last ball of the day in the Sydney Test in the 02/03 Ashes. Without that 100 it was probably career done.

You mean Newkirk the explosives expert in Hogans Heroes
I grew up watching that show

IIRC he didn’t host a game show but was the host in the Arnie movie “Running Man”

He had two stints hosting Family Feud.

Dropped off the perch in 2012.

Thorpe has also been sacked. Interesting. The Sydney test - Silverwood absent - was the only one they showed any real fight in.

Thorpe got into a fair bit of strife with the Hobart pub video making the internet.

He’s also been said to be a bit of a micromanager.

I always liked him as a batsman. Such a simple, effective technique.

Interesting fact, he was born in the UK.

Imagine holding an eight hour meeting and still not being able to decide if you want to keep your coach or not? Incompetent fools.

I think the ball is in JL’s court now. Take 2 years or quit

Ahh, well that’s the death knell then.

Langer gone. Not a great ending for a legend of Aussie cricket.

So they did make a decision but wanted to force him to resign rather than sack him. Nice way to treat the guy.

I think this is a worse look for CA than it is Langer.

Fk, I’m not looking forward to a Langer coached England team regaining the Ashes in 2023.

Despite the onfield performances must not have the backing of the players
