Never mind bloody Laker. He was a very good bowler (for an offie), but that 1956 match at Old Trafford when he took 10 wickets in the second innings (and nine in the first innings, allowing Lock the other wicket of the match) was a disgusting con-job. The English prepared a special wicket for him, shaving it overnight, completely against the rules, so that Laker and the England team could cheat their way to victory, which they did. It’s worthwhile reading what the ESPN report has to say about it.

You could probably argue that Geoff Miller, Ray Illingworth, John Emburey earnt their places in touring sides here. Plenty of left-arm orthodox bowlers have come here, with varying success.

Mushie bowled wrist spin, Vettori & Jadeja left arm finger spinners - ie leg spin, not off spin.

With the proviso that off-spin is nearly certainly the hardest way to actually take bulk wickets in Australia. He’s probably the best to tour here. Has done well their last two tours, dispelling a pretty big knock.
And they’ve beaten us at home, beaten us there, beaten England, SA etc.

Vettori & Jadeja being left armers are still bowling with an off spin action, hence being on the list. Being left armers does not make them leg spinners, rather they are left arm orthodox. For the purpose of the discussion, the type of spin is more relevant than which arm it is delivered from, hence the inclusion of them in this list.

Ok he had the ability to bowl a doosra and turn them the other way occasionally but he was an off spinner.
Myself, l would have gone for over rated.

Brendan Julian has always struck me as the kind of guy who spends just about all his time with things like his share portfolio, properties around Margaret River and his wine and art collections but yet he just happened to play for Australia back in the day and look handsome so by default he just permanently gets a gig commentating. Despite barely being across things and being prone to gaffes.
Every summer, it sounds like he hasn’t followed cricket at all in the previous 9 months lol.

He was pretty good for a while, but his technique has completely gone after playing so much Limited overs stuff
I’m just really hoping we are competitive this summer. Seen us get smashed off the park way too often. Really want to see an England side have a go and be hard to beat.
