Winning the toss and bowling, unless it’s an absolute green seamer and the overhead conditions are conductive to swing, is an extremely negative move. I say bat first, but the top order need to work hard and get through the first session. Do that and as the wicket flattens out and the ball gets older it should get easier to bat on.
Forecast is improving. Might get through two sessions or even more unscathed.

I reckon if you are a new Captain, you might want to bat first and settle into the game.
