The 2023 Draft Thread

I know Tsatas is a good pick, but I just watched the footage of Phillipou starting at Moorabbin and I honestly think we picked the wrong kid.

Phillipou is just completely in awe, even started planning what number might be available and how he’ll prepare for the 3km time trial next week.

You can tell this kid is going to suck everything he can from his career. No stone left unturned.

I even wanted McKenzie over Pou, but I think the kid will be a gun. Saints had a very good draft.

Tsatas will be better.

Best player in the draft.

Can’t believe he was available at our pick.

From his interviews, Tsatas has indicated a quiet self determination that matches Phillipou’s public confidence. Three comments specifically. One was about coming back from injury and needing to prove himself. Second was about picking himself number 1. Third was about him going head to head with Ashcroft. All comments were Phillipou like. But Tsatas actually delivered with action. So much so that I reckon he will set himself to play on and destroy Phillipou just to prove a point.

I have no concerns about the kid we got.

Yep. How many of the last, say 10, Brownlow medalists have ever actually talked themselves up? Most of them are fairly reserved guys that just go about being elite footballers.

2015 Nat Fyfe
2014 Matt Pridis
2013 Gary Ablett
2012 Jobe Watson

Not really a big headed type amongst this lot, all are pretty quiet blokes.

Now if you included the two who stole the Medal in 2012; both Mitchell and Cotchin have big egos and big heads.

We need that type of player

Yep. Drafting players on self confidence is a fairly ridiculous notion.

It’s more about getting between the ears of defenders imho.

(Your annoying bloke has to be the small forward)

I was really confident in 1978 when I played footy in Sydney. I was CHB on this bloke called John Pitura, and I knew I would beat him as I ran on to the ground.

He kicked 8 goals on me before I was moved and that was before half-time. Guess confidence doesn’t mean you have actual ability.

Wouldn’t be against really taking our time to build the team playing how we want to play long term and getting fundamentals right.

Maybe just land in that 2-3 draft pick range. Doubt anyone can be worse than Hawks.

And profit.

Then pull the trigger and go to town in 2024.

I think North will be worse than the Hawks. Only just though.

Agree we should keep building from a low base. People trying to fix list balance right now should take a breather. We have another draft or 2 to complete the core of our list that will play together for 5-10 years.

Lol

Apparently he’s already bought a pair of footy boots and a mouth guard.

It’s really bad news.
Do we know if Tsatas has thought about his number yet?

Has he thought about the time trial? Does he know how to run? Does he have legs?

Classic Dodoro pick. Private school kid that doesn’t have legs. We always play it safe.

Like what and how? Perhaps going for a 2 k run?

  • wake up in the morning
  • be at footy club
  • remember to wear shoes
  • stand near start line

Watch the video dingus, there’s more context to it…the under 18’s use 2km time trials as a benchmark so 3kms is a different prep.

Anyway, can’t wait for Tsatas to come streaming through the middle only to kick a floater right into the oppositions hands. Sound familiar.
