It’s possible, although the reason Mahoney’s at the AFL is because he and Dodoro, to quote the club president, “weren’t best mates”, so I wouldn’t bank on it.

Channel West Coast … tank … Pick Kako
Is there anything more guaranteed than the NGA changes coming in next year so we miss out on Kako?

I think the more likely outcome is the changes come in next year in such a way that we still wouldn’t have been able to get Kako, but everyone will talk about how the AFL screwed us out of Kako for the next decade. It will be impossible to tell who’s doing it ironically and who truly believes it.

Nah I reckon talk will be more of unfair how Essendon will need a first rounder to match Bewick bid, yet previously clubs have been able to match with multiple second rounders etc.
would be nice to kind of even it out for clubs that missed first round talent as NGA

Saints missed out on McKenzie, Dees Mac Andrew, now us Kako.
Well, they need to change what qualifies you as potential NGA.
If you’re born here, you’re not NGA. You’ve been able to play Aussie Rules since you were a tacker.
The McKenzie one was piffle, so was Ben McNiece. Had a foreign parent…so what?
The NGA’s were started precisely because there were kids who could have been playing football since they were tackers but weren’t. Kids with Asian and African background in particular were (maybe still are, I don’t know) participating at far higher rates in soccer, basketball, and cricket than in football. The AFL wanted some way to get those kids who didn’t participate in Auskick from the age of five to switch to footy as twelve year olds. It wasn’t about underprivileged refugees or something, it was about being the first choice sport for as many kids as possible. Presumably to get them to create sports betting accounts after they didn’t get drafted.

Believe he’s toted as a Top 10-15 pick. No chance to get past 40.

Won’t be there after pick 40 and no guarantee he’ll be available with our first round pick.
AFL to change the rules to allow us to match at any point, which is an option being discussed.
