The 2024 Draft [no longer spec] Thread

Legit, especially considering Kako has not been rated in the top 10 all year.
This is so farking frustrating.

It would be an absolute disaster for the club if we are suddenly losing a free top 10 draft pick this year thats been pencilled in for months.
Make no mistake about that, would be a massive loss.

This usually means it’s not as deep a draft, not that there aren’t any top end talent probably just as good as this years players.

Our picks are going to wildly swing over the next fortnight let alone the next 5 weeks.

Based on phantoms last year…

Pick October 20 November Actual
Pick 7 Sanders Windsor Windsor
Pick 8 Caddy Leake Curtin
Pick 9 Read Read Read
Pick 10 O’Sullivan Caddy Caddy
Pick 11 Windsor O’Sullivan O’Sullivan
Pick 12 Leake Tholstrup Gothard

It’s really not worth getting too hyped up on what may happen when the it’s likely to be a pretty fluid situation (just like every draft).

Blitz going to be stressful on draft night :joy:

I think it’s more you than everyone else considering recent history.

I trust Rosa to have every contingency plan in place and be level headed enough to not let ego get in the way and make the right decision.

So if someone nominates Kako before our bid, can we still live trade our first pick or do we need to do it beforehand?

Live trade allowed.

Apparently, I think we can trade it for a future pick for example…then no longer have the pick available for matching, then match with other (later) picks. Although not 100% on this, but makes sense

but after brisbane and coleman, watch us only get 5 minutes and run out of time

I’ve been listening to draft experts forever. The number of times I’ve heard deep draft, super draft, weak draft is ridiculous.

It’s all nonsense, just get your hands on the best talent you can and develop the hell out of them.

Not a bad point, this.

I remember the '06 draft was a super draft. The top 5 were Bryce Gibbs, Scott Gumbleton, Lachie Hanson, Matthew Leuenburger and Travis Boak - Boak was a great get at 5 but the first four? My god, it doesn’t get any more revolting than that. It’s so offensive I want an apology from someone. Anyone. We also took Leroy Jetta as a late first. Awesome.

It might be true this year. Might also be a big wank.

How does this make any sense? Its all nonsense, but get your hands on the best talent you can, but the people assessing the talent don’t know what they’re talking about because its all nonsense, so just draft random dudes and hope it works out?

Exactly. And if he hasn’t got those contingencies in place, then he should rightfully be let go immediately. But I have faith that he and the list management team will be all over it. Much more so than us observers with no knowledge.

To be fair that was almost 20 years ago and the industry has undoubtedly come a long way since. One of the criticisms of our club would be that we haven’t kept up with others in this space and it’s only recently that we’ve made some moves to rectify this.

Of course there’s still going to be some misses and players who don’t fulfil their promise but I think the evaluation of talent at the top end if generally pretty good nowadays. In that draft in particular, it was always a bit boom or bust given how many of the top end talent were 200cm kids. In Gumby and Leuenberger’s case, their bodies unfortunately let them down.

fallacy of that argument is we loose a potential good player in F1 next year.

Awwww, did I hurt your feelings? Don’t take it as a personal slight, but I will reiterate, countless drafts have been measured as super drafts, deep drafts, shallow drafts and it never pans out the way the experts suggest.

My point is you target a couple of key prospects that you measure as being worthy of your draft capital, and not worry if a draft is deep or not. Even so called shallow drafts can yield good results if a club has a deft eye.

But you know, you do you.

Suuurely we get a pick in before Kako.

Saints won’t dog us after we just helped them get better compo for Gresh & no way Dees pull the trigger at 5. Suns of all clubs aren’t gonna be making any enemies with early NGA bids.

Travaglia coming second in the 2km will have him right in the mix for us given we want more good runners IMO.

Assuming Smillie/Langford/Reid don’t slide, I’d honestly be really happy with any of:

Travaglia
Hotton
Lindsay
Allan

There’s no need to be a smart ass.
Noober is one of a handful or even less that knows this draft pool. You don’t have to agree with him but i reckon affording him respect is not asking too much.

Nah sorry just reflecting the response I got.
