The 2024 Draft [no longer spec] Thread

Its definitely a good way to look at it. With the pick trade we swapped a first for a first plus added enough points to pay for Kako (near enough). Through the combination of the NGA rule change and this pick trade we’ve ended up with an extra first round pick for nothing.

I like the look of Jonty Faull. There is no real reason. I think I’ve read that he’s a see ball, get ball scrapper. You can never have enough of the tenacious type.

If he (or someone like him) falls far enough in the bidding, perhaps Essendon can trade back in.

Cal Twomey has him at pick 22

It was a huge performance from Faull on Sunday, as the Rebels key forward put in a team-lifting five-goal effort to spearhead them into the Grand Final. Faull’s workrate is immense for a key forward – he runs up and back, he competes for marks and for ground balls, and his set-shot kicking is reliable. The game backed up a four-goal performance the week before against the Geelong Falcons in the qualifying final, with Faull having booted 27 goals for the Rebels since returning in round 10 from a back injury.

@noobermensch how compromised is next years draft with academy and f/S picks?

I mean you generally just disregard them.

There’s only one F/S in Tom McGuane for the pies that immediately springs to mind, but there will be a number of Northern Academy picks. McGuane is a borderline first rounder in my mind, and I’d guess 4 academy first rounders at this stage.

Let me guess they belong to Brisbane and GC

@noobermensch who would you target with picks in the 40s?

Any ideas?

We talking this draft?

There are going to be HEAPS of kids in the 40s worth targeting but its tough to give names at this stage. Once you get outside of the mid 20s I feel as though there are another 20 to 30 kids that could all end up going in any order. I think it would be best to stay flexible and pick the sliders we have high on our board.

Some that I see having a chance to slide that I really like:
Tom Sims - 200+cm forward/ruck
Christian Moraes - versatile mid/flank
Harry O’Farrell - key postition, mostly defender but has played some forward
Harry Oliver - all purpose defender, rebounds well but can lock down also

All those kids should go before pick 40 but I could say that about 50 prospects this year and someone has to slide.

Please give names, so Blitz can hold you accountable and drive you off this forum when you’re inevitably wrong.

would Hannaford slide that far?
would it be worth pairing 40pick with future second to grab someone like him?

I think moraes might slide.

I guess it will be we might rate a kid top 20 prospect and he’s still on the baord at 30, maybe we trade up to get him.

Yes this draft. Cheers.

Hopefully we can grab another Archie Roberts from the clouds.

I doubt he slides that far myself, but you never know. I personally have him in the mid teens myself so of course I’d be in favour of trading up to get him basically any time after that depending on how much you’re giving up.

That’s very unlikely to work, given the Kako situation.

best kicks and decision makers available please

Any chance Gerreyn slides far enough for us?

Similar chance to Sims and Matt Whitlock I imagine - there are a number of key forward prospects around those middle picks and not every team will be chasing that type.

I have thought that a couple of our VFL players put in better performances than AFL listed guys. I’ll be interested to see if we pick up one or more of those guys late this year.

I guess Hoare potentially?
Keep in mind he’s 4+ years older than Hayes. I liked him but wouldn’t take him unless we do get rid of Lav. Hayes deserves a chance.

Foley is one that should have been on our cat b list already. Absolutely no reason for not giving him a chance back then.

Otherwise I’m struggling to think of anyone really.

Nyko and Toma had their moments but not sure they showed enough. Peris maybe? Had forgotten him

Hoare or Weid.

Not a tough call.
