Just doesn’t make sense with the profile of the list to be pushing anything past capitalising in this draft and next.
Our core group is still young enough to be in their prime’s after the next 2 seasons, but that’s when we should be looking to be winning finals.
If not, we should have done a fire sale on Redmond, Draper, Ridley, McGrath, Parish and Langford as we’ll just be finishing 10-12th every season and not really bottoming out.
Saints trade pick 8 to GWS for 15 and 16.
We live trade Dees F1 for pick 16 on draft night.
- saints spread their picks as per their preference
- giants move up as they always want to do
- we get back into the first rd.
What if they didn’t want a trade? I can bet none of them would have agreed so the concept of fire sale never gets off the ground.
I’d just stay pat
I wonder if Tiges would budge on that pick 11.
Would be a awful deal for us
But why risk using what could possibly be a top 6 pick in draft with a better top class for the sake of a mediocre mid to late first round.
I know people will say oh but we get twelve months development in but either way that 12 months won’t do anything compared to the level of talent between early next year or the ability to move up to a pick 1 next year over a mid to late first this year
Hold your first two picks for next year, we just wont get value trading back ib.
Every single year everyone has had wet dreams on the draft.
Why?
Pretty much everything I said in the next post.
There’s a fair chance it would be a top 6-8 pick next year for pick 16 would be a shocking deal.
Then there’s the chance our future first could be top 5 we could use those two top tens to move up to pick one in draft with a better top end rather than giving it away for a late first round pick
What if its not a top 8 pick? Dees say finish mid table, get pick 10. Add say 4 academy kids that are rated in the top 10 next year and all of a sudden pick 10 is 14 is a weaker draft (judging at this point).
So i think a teens picks this year would be better than one next year.
It’s a gamble, but if a player we really like is there and we can trade in, im all for it.
Then we still hold two in the top ten and use them to move up to the top of the draft plus next year you can trade two years in advance so gives us greater flexibility
Id imagine it will purely come down to how the club rates the players available at the time a club is willing to trade.
No point doing it for the sake of it, but if theres someone they truly rate highly, may as well go for it.
If there is a kid that we rate highly that falls to a pick that we can trade in to then we go for it.
Alternatively, If Reid has given us any indication that he wants to come home next year then we are obviously all in on him.
3 first rounders and Guelfi.
So we have one suggestion of trading our future first to trade back in to this draft for a later pick than we would have had this year anyway and another suggestion of trading a future first which will likely be a top 10 pick, for this year’s pick 16.
I have no doubt we’ll be desperate and sell the farm, but it’d be a silly and impatient move.
The only way I’d do it is, if we can snag two Richmond picks with a future first. One in the teens and one in the 20s.
Absolutely no chance we’d get anywhere close to that return, just look at other deals done this year.
Say we trade Melbourne’s f1 for 16 as suggested.
Ultimately that’s 9 and a f3 for 16, 28, 40, 46, 54 and 65.
Which equates to 16 and enough points to match a bid at 4 (and that’s before other bids improving it further).
Sounds like a bloody good deal to me.
It’ll all come down to who’s left (and whether a team like Richmond even bites at that deal).
Personally I’d keep both future firsts, but I can understand the reasoning behind trading back in
I dont really care for the pick. If we see a player we want, I’d hope we would throw whatever we can to get him. Jobe S played so well for us in the VFL and spent a bit of pre season with us last year. Seems like a super competitive kid aswell, i’d happily trade up if we believe he is worth it.
Depends who is available.
Our history of players “falling to our pick” is not good e.g Jones, Hobbs etc….
That crossed my mind aswell and then I remembered that Dodoro is no longer in charge.
