Kako, Nguyen and one or two late picks by the looks, if we don’t/can’t trade back.

Would make Baldwin and Prior pretty likely additions later on, given how many list spots we have. Not sure how all that quite lines up with our “go to the draft” strategy though.

I don’t get people saying that where Kako is bid on tomorrow will determine whether Rosa made the right choice or not.

The pick just had to be traded out, it was a necessary business decision.

If we retained it a club may have forced our hand and it could have been tricky with our lack of draft capital.

Lots of ifs and maybes.

We go in now with no uncertainty. A bird in the hand is better than two in the bush.

Jobe Shanahan now going 14th to Richmond… they get a Jack Riewoldt replacement.

I really wanted Jobe. Terrible luck.

Well the merits speak for themsleves. The silver ware collected over the past years achievments are the envy of the league. And never forget those franchise players that optimise our success. :champagne::sweat_drops::sweat_drops::clinking_glasses::clinking_glasses:

Well now don’t Tigers get a swell haul. Lions & GWS ain’t too shabby either. I think we have really nailed this draft. Well played.:clap:

He is permanently off his ■■■■!

Essendon have had 2 meetings with Sam Toner.
Not that guarantees a single thing, however it tells me we are obviously looking at a forward target. We could do a lot worse than Sam as a late pick too.

There isn’t one. Trading out means clubs aren’t gaining much by bidding on Kako so the bid might come later. We got good value in the trade and can potentially trade back in before or after Kako is bid on if a player we like is available for a reasonable price.

The pick 9 trade was absolutely necessary, Rosa did fantastic to get the deal he got. If we move 28 and 31 for more future picks the deal gets better again.

A big factor was that we had no late picks to match the Kako trade. If we could of traded Shiel and Lav and had enough picks to match a Kako bid, then we could have waited until draft night and let it play out. But hands were tied and Dees came with probably the best offer we could have got.

The wait and see part of tonight is less about where Kako gets bid on, and more about what offers other clubs get for their first round picks

I’m hoping we keep both our future firsts but if we were to trade one I’m hoping Taj Hottton slips through to GWS’ second pick and we get that pick and take Hotton.

So we pick no one this year besides Kako?? in one of the best drafts going around?

I like the way we have assured ourselves of Kako, and have given ourselves plenty of options in the draft.

It’s a bit of risk management and new thinking for us, rather than ‘best available’. The new draft rules over the last few years mean we must become flexible, creative and adaptive.

I like.

Are we better off shifting only one, not both 28 and 31? That gives us another future pick but still likely leaves us with some picks in the 40s.

Could still trade in before a bid comes if we want. It just gave us flexibility.

And tbh having Melbourne’s first next year is pretty appealing.

Could be worse, we could pick Shane Harvey, Simon O’Keefe, Joel Reynolds and a 500 year old Paul Salmon
