The 2024 Draft [no longer spec] Thread

Happy draft day everyone

Or the year before that, “hiding” James Davies then picking him way earlier than any other club was interested.

Those last few Sheedy years were something.

I am so far behind. Only realised this morning that it was draft day. Wonder how my boss will feel about me spending the day grinding draft tape?

I didn’t think we’d actually hid him, just that he was a mad “barracked for us as a kid” Essendon fan who had compromised the draft by telling everyone else that he didn’t want to play for them. And Sheedy loved a 190+cm athlete.

But I may be way wrong.

I think this sounds like a great idea. May I suggest a fantastic youtube channel run by a handsome and hard working chap?

That was my starting point.

Now if I can just get these numbers sorted for my client I’m a chance.

Would the “draft guide” be the place to start?

(In years past I would just pick a random “all involvements” video and then track through to other players I like the look of, but time is up!)

Depends on whether you can handle my monotone voice without falling asleep.

The draft guide gives an overview of the whole pool.

Hannaford is the one I am going to loathe seeing run around for another club next year. Really wanted us to find a way to get him but it doesn’t look too likely.

I don’t think its impossible. He’s likely to be picked around where we could realistically start hunting for a pick to trade back into.

Although I’ve heard no rumours that we’re keen.

It’s our first completely Dodoro-free draft in more than two decades.

I still think that clubs who hold picks in the early 20’s have the leverage to only trade for a future first. And I doubt we give that up.

From everything I’ve seen I think his draft range starts around pick 20 but there’s a chance he could slide late 20s or even early 30s. I think we’re likely to try and trade back in for a slider such as that.

Just had a look through the phantom draft. The crows will remain the only club with the self respect to bid on the best player with pick 1 it would seem.

Edit: funny to think if the crows had taken the same little ■■■■■ route that other teams have when it comes to pick 1, the AFL probably wouldn’t have changed the NGA rule in the first place.

Is it just me or has Jasper Alger come out of nowhere a little in terms of the top 30. I thought he’d be a sneaky chance at our second selection.

Not out of nowhere, but he’s gained in popularity. It was Kai Lohmann’s grand final performance that did it. He’s seen as a very similar type.

Also a lot of pissant clubs with picks before us had their panties in a bunch about the change to the academy rules specifically to give us access to Kako when they had been stiffed in the couple of years prior.

Whatever happens now is pretty much irrelevant since we’ve positioned ourselves as best we could to deal with whatever scenario gets thrown up.

A good replacement for Stringer?

That’s seriously underselling those Richmond picks.

They’ll have multiple teams offering future firsts which trumps a pick slide and a junk pick.

I’m not as big on Alger as others.

He’s an athlete that loves to leap and take marks, but he’s small forward size at 182cm and just okay below his knees. They tried to play him further up the ground at times this year, but he was lost and had no impact.

Currently he’s a moments player, but goes missing a lot.
