With out enough knowledge of this years draft i found it strange we couldnt have split 9 for two picks in the teens where Kako was slated to go.

Given us more points and then traded out if we had too.

What we traded 9 for i dunno, found it odd. A lot of points but really sent us a long way back this year.

But hey we got a future first.

Expect for the two most knowledgeable and credible journalists with the most sources in the draft space in twomey and beveridge both saying it

I think anywhere from here on is a good spot for Shanahan to land. I do think I’d pick him head of Jack Whitlock and Tom Sims who are probably the next key forwards to go.

Dodoro and the club didn’t have a strategy

In hoping we pick a midfielder. That can kick

We could end up in Kayle Gerreyn territory which would make a few people here very happy I suspect.

@noobermensch you’ve probably been asked this and I’ve missed it but who are your top 3 hopefuls for us from here?

Of course HS going with the head line we made a blunder in trading pick 9 thanks to Mick Ablett.

If another club did the same no one would bat an eye lid but because it’s Essendon we get slammed media are farking flogs.

They also seem to forget that we got Meblournes F1 out of it

I just wanna know who is the slider™ and will we have a chance to grab him?

Just to add an extra dimension to the North trade.
The pick they traded for is the same pick they traded away last year for pick 18 (which became 23 - Riley Hardeman).

I guess the fact the AFL handed it to them for nothing counts for something though.

North don’t have a pick till 54 we could trade 39 for their F2?

Go into next years draft with 2 firsts and 2 seconds

I understand it could have happened. And I’m not unhappy with our moves. But there’s also a bit of the “talk about Essendon to get clicks” mayo that goes on in my opinion.

There is pretty much no history of clubs bidding on these picks early to force someone’s hand. Every year it gets talked up and every year the player ends up a little lower.

If we had 9 StK choosing to bid at 8 has much much higher stakes for them. Because if there’s someone they rate higher, it’s possible that we also rate that player higher and by passing on Kako get someone we weren’t expecting.

Could it have happened? Yes.

Did we get a good deal? I think so. And I like having Melbourne’s pick next year a lot.

But just because there is a suspicion that someone would have bod on our player it’s not guaranteed. Clubs clearly preferred Lombard over Kako, so how many times were they willing to risk a bid. We can never know for sure.

They were saying it was possible. But they were still saying a bis was possible from that point tonight as well.

We just don’t know

The north trade is fine. In 2 years probably Tasmania will be in the VFL and will need some names to develop to sell memberships off the back of.

Pick 40 will be a second rounder in no time after concessions and bids. Also think of where the 1st round really is if your rebuild isn’t finished and 7-9 picks at the top are straight to Tassie.

Trick them into handing over Richmond’s instead…
Surely Norths done making stupid decisions now though.

I’ll get back to you tomorrow morning after a nights sleep. Been busy posting links all over twitter and big footy so I’m a bit stuffed to be honest. Having a glass of wine.
