I was on a bike ride along the Yarra when that show was on (it must’ve been an afternoon or early evening show I guess). We sat on the banks of the river and listened to it for a while.
Not my favourite BB’s era to be fair (no Brian Wilson, Mike Love leading a cast of ring-ins, the execrable Kokomo etc. etc.) but it was still BW’s great tunes nonetheless…
Ha, there you go, and spot on! I was just happy to hear the great tunes live as you said, little secret, not the best gig ive been to but was special in its own way.
From memory these stand out:
Nirvana, Palace 1992
Iggy Pop, Beasts of Bourbon, Palace 1993
1994 BDO, in particular Soundgarden and Urge Overkill
Veruca Salt, POW 1997
The Posies, HiFi Bar, around 2006
Even at their Gaso Christmas gig, 2014 maybe
Devo at the Palais, on a bill with Church and Simple Minds
Oh, forgot to add
Dragon at the Paradise club, Tottenham, late 80’s. Tommy Emmanuel on guitar, Doane Perry on drums and Alan Mansfield on keyboards. The Hunter brothers were motivated. Phenomenal gig, and great to see Tommy being a guitar hero for a while.
Also the Models, ( James Freud version) at the Paradise club, same era. Really good live.
I think it was 94 at olympic park there was a concert called alternative nation. Some really big bands were there (faith no more, violent femmes, nine inch nails, Tool, the prodigy, def fx) but the one band that kicked everyones arse and blew ppl away was bodycount. They were amazing live. Another band that I saw more recently live was the darkness…such entertainers and just good ol rock music.
I have never seen ACDC and have never wanted to. I saw U2 on their Rattle & Hum tour with BB King. l went with some ex-students and an old GF, who hadn’t been to a rock concert before. BB King came on and did his set first. When it was over she stood up and declared that it was a great show and was ready to go. We laughed as l explained that U2 hadn’t even been on yet and the main show was still to come. This was at Rod Laver centre and was an excellent show. Her second rock concert was when l took her to Dire Straits on their Brothers in Arms tour, which was another great show, but l preferred the earlier Love Over Gold show at Festival Hall.
ACDC surprised me. It was a full on production and im glad I went.
The Billy Joel concert at the MCG last year was excellent. I think both Billy and the audience were treated with an incredible evening weather wise which helped immensely.
fk yes. only really knew them for enter sandman before this, and i had the s&m album from some competition i won. but after this gig became absolutely fanatical about them

Metallica certainly give you a fill of them when they tour.
I think they played for 3 hours last tour of Oz.
Their current world tour they are playing two consecutive nights with two different set lists at every city so fans can experience as much of their catalog as possible.
I saw Metallica headline a fest in 2006, and they went for 2 hr 20. Halfway through they launched into Master of Puppets from start to finish for the 20th anni. We got down near the front section and it was awesome.
Agree with that, l also liked the Love Over Gold album more. To me, it was just a more complete album, Brothers in Arms is a bit sterile by comparison.
I was huge Dire Straits fan…loved all their four of their first five albums (Communique was a distant fifth imo)…I’ve always thought that side one of Making Movies was about as close to perfection as it can get.
