Seven seasons into the biggest trade of the last twenty years, how has it played out?
Have Carlton got value?
Did Essendon dodge a bullet?
Given Carlton's trade of picks 3, 20 and the player drafted with pick 4 in 2005, while Essendon had pick 6, Myers, pick 23, Pears, and possibly the 2006 pick 3, Gumbleton...with no disrespect to those players we might have come out ahead on paper.
Could he have changed things for Knights' Essendon? The idea of Judd and Andrew Lovett in the same side, even if only for two seasons...it's something to think about.
Would he have got Collingwood another premiership, or would the trade have hurt them?
Could he have made Melbourne suck less?
Where should Judd have gone to get a club either into the top four or snag a(nother) flag?
Not sure we come out ahead. Myers is a gun but Judd is better and Gumby and Pears, well, injuries have hurt both of them.
At the end of the day though, we would have been covering up cracks with wet tissue. Judd would have maybe got us to a semi final at best. Would have been handy in say 2011 and 2012 but with him we wouldn't have gotten Goddard. Judd/Goddard these sort of players you get when the club has a decent list and is improving, in 2007, our list was rubbish. If you could move time and space, a 2008 Chriss Judd will be ■■■■■■ awesome right now.
So we didn't come out ahead from 2008-2014, but didn't exactly reel from it either.
Collingwood may well have made it in 2009, but would they have gotten Jolly or Ball if they already had Judd?
Would he have been the diffence between winning and losing by 100 points every other week under Knights? Nah. But he would’ve had more impact than the players and picks we would’ve given for him.
Hawthorn were interested in him, but he didn’t want to talk to them. Obviously that would have been the best choice for him. We didn’t even have a coach at the time, so we were never in the picture. And he wasn’t too impressed with out facilities when he toured Windy Hill.

There goes Cyril, and probably Thorp and Renouf. lolz.
The trade blew up at the end of '09 losing Fevola, something Carlton really hasn't recovered from.
The 2010 season they played finals, but that was probably the best chance they would have had a at flag. They weren't a great side, maybe just would have been in the right place right time with how they were placed. Think 2010 with Coll and StK playing in GF the blues missed their chance.
Had Fev not forced their hand and had to go, who knows if they could have got there, he was arguably the best FF at the time.
Bar his own personal success of picking up a brownlow, the trade has flopped for the Blues, cos ultimately the purpose was to deliver a flag.
Their own fault for not trading for that key forward, they have drafted sooooo poorly since, they only have themselves to blame.
Personally, had we picked him up, doubt he would have made much difference to our flag chances over the years, we were still building.
The Judd trade was good for Carlton, although if they could have found a way to do it without Kennedy it would have been better.
The fact that they farked every single other list Management and drafting decision after that, meant they wasted having one of the best players of the modern era.
We were never in the hunt, although sheedy’s proposed Lloyd trade would have actually worked well for us.
That Carlton/West Coast final (2010?) was one of the damn fastest, hardest and most entertaining non-Essendon games I’ve watched in recent years. Carlton were so good that night and almost won from memory. Could never understand how they capitulated so fast after that.

Ah yes, the famous hypothetical trade where West Coast take a 30 year-old Lloyd instead of pick 4 in the 2005 draft.
In hindsight, Judd fought too hard in getting a good deal for westcoast, and carlton payed overs.
If judd wanted success at his new club he should have tried to screw west coast over, and worst case Scenario he would have ended up at the Dees. And if that had happened, im sure other players would have come over to the Dees rather than Hacks like Dawes, Byrnes, Rodan etc, Also might have meant better development of Melbournes mids....however you cant really say that murphy and Gibbs have deloped amazing from number 1 draft pcks at the blues.

Would have been Lloyd plus Gumbleton plus Pick 6 (Myers)
for Judd, and I think fans would have been upset with that deal, tearing fabric etc.
Lloyd possibly could have helped Eagles get another flag in the interim.
Judd would have been kicking lace out passes to Neagle.

I reckon Melbourne's high draft picks would have done much better with Judd.
