The Cricket Thread (part 10) - from Feb 2025

Buckingham played 3 of the 4 after Christmas and Thornton played 2.
Buckingham is a better bowler than Thornton IMO and in the end it was a tight choice.
Pope was the one who I felt was unlucky but the rules for the final probably cost him aswell as his batting

The article is not a joke though unfortunately

Changes to the CA contract list

ā€œ The Test summer’s standout newcomers, Sam Konstas, Beau Webster and Matthew Kuhnemann, have all been rewarded with national men’s contracts for the 2025-26 season.

Cricket Australia today announced a settled 23-player list that has seen just three changes from the previous year with allrounders Sean Abbott and Aaron Hardie, along with spinner Todd Murphy, the only omissions.ā€

We may get a day/night Test in Jamaica.

Yeah, let’s hope so.
I’ll be at the test so a D/N would be pretty cool

So, Will Pucovski’s retirement has been formally announced.
Listening to him speak, he’s still clearly got lingering (and reasonably severe) symptoms.

It’s no real surprise, but it’s no less sad. Feel for the bloke.

Talk is he will be coaching the Melbourne premier grade club from next season.

Incredibly disappointing from CricAus/Vic to keep sending him up all this time.

Ongoing symptoms for several years now for the poor lad. Sad stuff, and it’s probably going to get sadder as he ages.

He’s an idiot.

Kept getting concussed and kept playing. This is all on him, he shouldn’t be pointing the blame at anyone else

13 concussions is terrible. What a worrying future for him.

Certainly when it comes to the IPL over the years this is pretty much bang on the money lmao

Doesn’t mind a double hundred in a World Cup when the games really mean something though.

Sanjay himself scored one ODI century in 70 innings

Yes, he was ordinary.
I guess though he is paid to comment on the IPL and he obviously believes Maxwell hasn’t performed

Bit harsh …

He had a talent and chased a dream.
Don’t think he blames anyone else but himself.
Let’s hope he has a long life and kids arrive etc.

All the best to Will Pucovski

Thought I’d tune in for the opening few overs of the IPL before calling it a night, and just saw Starc get hit for 30 runs in an over by Phil Salt (mainly)!
