The Cricket Thread (part 11) - from The Champing

I wonder if the heat wave last week just made it really difficult for the curators. Back to English weather this week.

Cricket Victoria has applied for three trademarks for potential nicknames for the new BB team which will replace the Stars and Renegades.

The three names are (Melbourne) Rangers, Blazers and Magic. I’m less excited than Big Kev.

Hopefully Ollies performance can remind the selectors why big Fergus O’Neil needs to play, particularly in England

The ECB is currently investigating a breach of team protocols following the conclusion of the first Men’s Test against New Zealand.

Ben Stokes and Gus Atkinson were present at a nightclub in the early hours of Monday morning when an incident took place.

We are currently seeking further information, and an announcement regarding the squad for the second Test will be made in due course.

The Cricket Regulator has been informed and we will provide a further update when possible.

Surely Stokes was protecting the honour of two homosexual men again?

I know we have been crying out for a fairer game of bat vs ball but I think we have over-corrected. Good pitch should have grass on day one, flatten out a bit then turn on day 4 and 5. This was a green monster, like what we produced last year.

It’s fair enough to give yourself an advantage against subcontinent teams as they always produce raging turners, but with NZ they experience the same conditions so they were hardly doing it for an advantage

There has been massive concern about the state of the Lord’s pitch for a while. Problem is that its used so often that there is little chance of performing meaningful restoration work during the season. It is hosting 3 Tests this English summer, plus a full County Championship season, T20 Blast and also The Hundred. I can only see it getting worse as the season progresses.

The Lord’s work is never done.

One may wonder - does Ben Stokes have a drinking problem.

I think drinking has a Ben Stokes problem.

He’s a 1980’s cricketer transported forward 50 years.

So Australia has gone from turgid Pakistan wickets to Bangladesh roads? Bangas going over 6 an over against us right now…

The Aussies turgid batting has continued though.

To be fair, Short copped an absolute snorter first up.

Connolly opening the batting now?

Lab in the four ODI’s this year has gone 0, 5, 19 (run out, but still), and 1.
