The Cricket Thread (part 11) - from The Champing

5/68.

Awful.

Marcus batting at 7 lol! Could this be the day?

Marnus is a ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–  disaster at the minute. Should be back in the sheds already, Bangas botched a run-out at the bowler’s end after a mix-up with Green. Relying on both these to get us back on track is heart in mouth stuff.

Short has been out 4 times in his last 8 balls in odi cricket.

This might suit him better. He just needs to hold up an end and turn over the strike with singles and make sure we take it as deep as possible.

I couldn’t give a skerrick of a whisper of a hint of a fark about ODI or T20 cricket.

Wake me up when the real stuff begins.

7 from 17 in a T20.

Look, we have other problems, but this is nuts.
Has always, obviously, been nuts,

He’s not an ODI player.
He is SO not a T20 player.

Honestly, what the actual Fark is going on with the ACB?
It’s Brad Scott level bad.

It’s not a T20.

The hint would be that they’ve bowled more than 20 overs!

Thr steep decline of Marnus would be a fascinating case study. From looking like Steve Smith 2.0 to now being a walking wicket who struggles to score runs with any fluency in the space of 3-4 years. He’s now batting at 7 in ODIs.

lol.
Thought it was.

Still garbage.

So marnus is holding up an end while the bowlers are doing the hitting now?

He’s 47 not, from 70, with Bartlett 44 not.

6-170 from 36,5

Green made 25.

If the pitch is getting easier to bat on our decision to bat first is looking silly

I also wonder how seriously we take it from a coaching point of view - when it’s a bit of a 2nds team, perhaps we aren’t putting in the effort? Don’t know.

If it was an ODI we really cared about there would probably be something like Cummins, Starc, Hazelwood, Head & Marsh, in the team. That’s 5 changes without even thinking about the merit of Marnus being there.

Agree with @Houli_Dooley.. What is coming through doesn’t look great, but I wonder how much of that is management vs talent. Whilst the test team is generally pretty settled, white ball selection seems comparatively random and players don’t get to gel as a team or feel secure.

But the question is if we are going to send a second string line up, why play so many blokes over 30? 7 in this game, not counting Meredith who is 10 days off 30. How is that helping us long term? We could be giving future national players exposure to overseas conditions

Anyway, after only losing to Bangladesh once in odis historically, we’ve now lost back to back games to them

If players are going to play until mid -to late 30’s, then playing a 29 yr old is still planning for the future if you think they could play international cricket for 5 years.

So a mixture of young and mid age players is probably the right way to go.

Reports doing the rounds that Kane Williamson has announced his retirement from International cricket effective immediately. Rather abrupt to pull the pin mid-series, but what a wonderful player.

That would be a shame. There is something to be said for retiring at the top of your game, though.
Of players that have played 100 Tests…or to be generous to others, 90, only Sobers, Sangakkara, Smith and Kallis have a better average.
