Oh 100%

But my disdain for square leg umpires supercedes any keepers Union

Given they no longer do no balls, run outs or stumpings the usefulness of on field umpires is getting less and less. Almost reduced to glorified coat racks for storing bowler jumpers and hats.

Currently watching Vics and NSW playing in Albury… From my couch in Wodonga.

Annoyingly - we were supposed to be playing on the second ground in that precinct tomorrow, but we’ve been relocated because the shield teams wanted the nets to themselves.

I might head over on Sunday if it’s still on. See if anyone can put a ball into the grandstand. Gotta be a good player to do that

Have you ever seen it happen?

Three times in maybe 15-20 games there. Once from a very, very good viewpoint.

I also have it on good authority (I know the bowler) that Dean Jones once hit a straight six into the velodrome at the top of the hill. Monstrous.

Days like this remind me how important the Australian Test side is to me, lol . I’m that friggin stressed leading into this run chase and Im 10,000 km from the action.

He simply doesn’t understand that you can actually have spells of not saying anything. You don’t have to fill the airwaves with tripe. Mitch Johnson is much better.

I have to think that one eight run over will screw them.
I’ll be kind of impressed if it doesn’t.

I’ve been critical of Smiff’s performance in this series (with bat and in slip) but that’s gotta be one of the best slip catches I’ve ever seen. It’s amazing whenever I see it. Has captained well too.

Pls don’t choke now Straya.

An appeal is never for a specific mode of dismissal.

I was impressed by his captaincy on the field.

It’s going to be awkward when Cummins returns because Smith is clearly a better option as skipper…

Australia $1.07 to win. India $9

Makes sense and A LOT has to go right for India. But could you imagine the scenes if we were say 5/40ish.

Bharat is going to be crucial for India with reviews and saving any extras.

A nervy, agonising chase on the cards, I feel.

Chucked a little $ on India just in case.

I recall in Keith Stackpole’s book that he had an umpire give the batsman he had bowled to not out. When questioned, the umpire said it was because they appealed for one type of dismissal but the batsman would have actually been out for another reason but they asked the wrong question. (It was 50 years ago so I don’t remember more details than that).

Snatching a famous defeat from the jaws of victory?

True, which means they have to check for the various modes when making a referral. I’m sure that the SL ump can watch the batsman’s feet on these stumpings. If the back foot is clearly always behind the crease and the stumping happens anyway - don’t refer it!

I don’t think it’ll be nervy or agonising. If a test team can’t chase down 75 then they don’t deserve to call themselves professionals. Play sensibly, each ball on merit and it’ll be fine.
