The Cricket Thread (part 6) - from July 2023 (Bartholemew Frinton-Smythe, Humphrey Wigbert-Porter, and Quinten Breckenridge)

Biggest reasons England lost:

  1. Throwing their wickets away in the 1st innings. Were 1/188, then proceeded to play stupid shots against short bowling at the end of Day 2. Then lost 6/41 Day 3 and handed us an important 1st innings lead.

  2. Jonny Bairstow keeping wicket.

I think it’s called a tail wagging the dog version of the result.

Every chance we win by more if we didn’t get Bairstow out then because that’s what triggered the Stokes rampage and we would have been a chance to get Stokes out before Bairstow and said start of rampage.

Sending Australia in after winning the toss tops the lot.
Cowardly decision by Stokes.
Handed the initiative to us and admitted they were running scared from our bowlers

Thankfully … they talked proper sense.

CA and the team and support party need to be a little careful here though. Headingley next stop and there’s a hostile venue if ever there’s one. Doesn’t take much for the beer and the anti to take hold. Broad, Robinson and Bairstow keep whipping up the crowd with an English media looking for action … anything could kick off. ECB and Headingley CC better be ready.

Beef up our team security, ignore their antics and just concentrate on winning and playing good cricket is the go.

This country is simmering under economic pressures … takes only one nutter to kick off up there. And there’s plenty of 'em looking for an outlet.

When you pick four quicks and no spinner, you kinda have to do that though. That was their best chance, overcast, green wicket and the ball did more in the first session than at any stage of the match. They blew it by not taking at least three wickets in the first session.

What a hypocrite. He was deadset embarrassing yesterday.

I hope this brings more mankad dismissals. No warnings either.

The Tweets l have read over this dismissal are salty indeed, l don’t mind them at all, the saltier the better as the fish that is English cricket, rots at the head. Other dismissals are dredged up for comparison. A stumping by Foakes off some Irish bat is compared, but they are not remotely the same set of circumstances.
Facts.

  1. Bear’s Toe had been seen wandering out of his crease more than once.
  2. Carey threw the ball at the stumps before Bear’s toe had left his crease.
  3. The chumpires had not called over, ergo the ball was not dead, but still in play.
  4. The dismissal was completely within the laws of the game.
  5. The stumping by now English coach MacCallum of Murali under similar circumstances is a better comparison, and the result was the same, given out.
  6. Broad can mouth off if he likes, but has been guilty in the past of not playing to the spirit of the game.
The English can cry all they like, the more whinging the better. Circle the wagons boys, Headingly awaits and the reception will be hostile. Stokes reckons they can still win The Ashes, l expect Australia to improve from the Lords test, and we could easily win this series 4 or 5 nil. Bring on Wednesday and more lack of sleep.

All the other other ā€œwhat about this oneā€ I’m not sure are the same as last nights, but this is the most similar.

I’m more than comfortable now.

ha - except it was one moment in many that decide an outcome.

last ball for the last wicket to get the win - sure that’s kinda different

Stokes going out to Hazelwood, that’s another key moment he may want to reflect on for outcome.

Bairstow knew that he stuffed that one up. He tried to do it to one of our batters on day 3. When the ball hit the stumps his heart sunk. He was devastated even before he was given out. Broad on the other hand. What a tool he was. Sook it up ya peanut.

Genuine question. What did he try??

What was the advantage??

On day 3 he tried the same thing to one of our batters. He had a ping at the stumps and missed.
