The Cricket Thread (part 7) - The Mitch Marsh Test Renaissance period

Exactly. India at home is pretty much unbeatable apart from the odd game here or there.

Our total was okay, but we just bowled really poorly.

Shot Sinclair

Anyone here old enough to have owned a Sinclair?

It’s always going to be difficult for any young spinner in India. India always targets bowlers and aims to destroy their confidence. Lyon, Warne, Horitz, Robertson all got demolished in India.
The main problem I notice with touring sides is they don’t know how to play quality spin. They get mesmorised by the spin and give away their wickets to panic. It’s hardly because the pitches are unplayable.

Our biggest issue is, because the pitches in England don’t spin. All our batsmen end up playing the sweep instead of using their feet

And if you sweep in India you are a walking wicket

The wasting of reviews by England will be costly. There will be one clear mistake that is missed that they can’t review

I ate one once…

or was that an eclair?

Might just be the accent.

Yep, you can’t afford to waste your reviews in any form of cricket. But wasting them in an away series in India is just a recipe for disaster

Marnus and Steve think everything is out. Thankfully Cummins is less inclined to listen to them anymore.

It comes down to preparation and training. Batsmen have to spend time acclimatizing and playing tour games leading to a series; they just don’t anymore. Australia toured India earlier this year without any tour games!? By the time the players had gotten accustomed to conditions the series was over. This is the height of madness in my opinion. Then touring teams have the audacity to blame the pitch.

This is a very competitive total.

And this stuff keeps exposing our lack of ability to get the lower order out quickly after running through the top order with ease.

Yep, you need a few solid weeks of getting used to their pitches in order to compete.

I’m amazed that the bigger countries don’t ask countries like Sri Lanka ( whose cricket boards need the coin) to prepare turning pitches for team to practice on before they tour

Let’s not overlook the fact every practice match Australia has played in India for the past 20 years is on a green top. We then walk out to start the first test and it’s a dust bowl. Warm up matches don’t work in India for this reason. It’s why they have such a massive advantage at home.

Test wickets in India are like nothing else - not even limited overs wickets in India.

Australia just assume the Windies will fold. Starc bowling his usual garbage.

The home team doesn’t really allow much touring and when they do they completely wreck the pitches so they do not play the way they will in tests. Most touring teams have given up bothering.

Then the fact you make more money for 20/20 so no one is available for pre tours.

I wouldn’t mind 350 plus wicket from bowling garbage

Starc has been the better bowler and has taken 4 wickets. The issue isn’t Starc.
