The Cricket Thread (part 8) - from Jan 2024

From the words of the great man Shane Warne a few summers ago regarding the test wicket keeper spot:

But the former vice-captain and Australia’s highest wicket-taker in Test cricket said Inglis would be his pick.

“Inglis gets my vote,” Warne wrote.

“He’s got silky smooth hands behind the stumps, he’s a 360 degree player with the bat and coming off three first class hundreds last season for WA.

“He’s a great team man who I saw first hand at the London Spirit this year. He’s 26. Bang, get him in.”

Give it a rest mate…we all know your position on this matter so you don’t need to keep harping on it.

I keep getting asked by other posters……I’m happy to leave it alone

Don’t know why Renshaw’s name keeps coming up, His form continues to stink. A whole 374 Shield runs this season sees him 19th on the most run scored table.

You just keep quoting journalists thoughts and now an article from 3 years ago
It’s a good job these people have absolutely zero say in team selection

I mentioned another guy recently but nobody picked up what I was laying down.

I’m guessing the great Shane Warne would know more than both of us on this topic. Anyway you have your view and I have mine; others wanted Warner replaced some didn’t. We all have an opinion and that’s cool @Aceman ……I respect all the posters in here. It’s a high grade cricket thread with Blitzers that know their stuff

Heh.
Funny that.
We could always ask Warner to come back…

Well NZ are likely to ask Wagner to come back for the next test

If you want an opener, pick Bancroft. 2nd most runs in the Shield this year, only behind Beau Webster. But they won’t because his papers are stamped.

Whiteman is the other opener from WA if you don’t want Bancroft.

lol.
No…seriously…
What if we asked Warner to come back?

What sort of benchmarks would you give him?

Because it couldn’t be worse than since he left/retired/was pushed out.

Or…I dunno…
Let Maxwell open.

It’d be a hell of a lot more fun and productive than Smith/Lab right now.

Good grief. Slug Webster having the most runs in Shield Cricket doesn’t paint the greatest picture of what we have coming through at the level below!

McSweeney was my serious suggestion.

Warne is entitled to his comments and of course he would know more than us but it was 3 years ago when he made those and that was when Carey’s glove works wasn’t as good as it is know. Since that time his glove work has improved whilst Inglis has levelled out and perhaps even gotten worse whilst his batting hasn’t improved either.
And FWIW I think a few former wicketkeepers who might know more than Warne when it comes to keeping have all rated Carey comfortably ahead of Inglis with the gloves

Webster is having an all-time season. It happens sometimes

No they are not…they have already put a line through Wagner playing.

Ben Sears can bowl some serious wheels. Was pushing 150km/h in the T20s.

Searing pace
