The Cricket Thread (part 8) - from Jan 2024

There was discussion during the test by commentators and ex NZ players saying they think he might be asked to play in Christchurch given the injuries to NZs bowlers ……this was after he announced his retirement

Manenti is pretty high on that list and bats 7 or 8 for SA

A simple Google search would have given you relevant information on this matter.

Webster joins a select group of 20 wickets and 800 runs in a season.
Little wonder that Sobers is still revered so highly in Adelaide though

Relax Swoods I was listening to it on the radio …….that is exactly what was discussed - Coney and Smith saying they might need Wagner and he’d be asked to play in Christchurch . If there has been an update since Sunday well no I haven’t seen it. It’s not something I typically google but I appreciate your update thank you :ok_hand:

Ignoring his 1no,
Lab has been dismissed for 10, 3, 5, 1, 2.

He’s made one ton in Ever.

I’ve been banging on about Lab for a while ….his batting average has dropped from 61 to 49 in 14 months ……averaging around 30……I x 100 in 37 innings

Since 26 December 2022, both Carey and Lab have made one ton.

Yes ……they’ve been given chances to turn their form around

Does this say more about our batting stocks or our bowling stocks?

I could find you an article from 2-3 yrs ago saying he’s the best in the world.

Lab is out of form, but the alternatives are worse so he stays in.

Pretty sure the alternatives are not worse than 3.6 over six innings.

There’s one test left for this summer…the next test Australia plays is not until November.

Barring injury, I seriously doubt that the selectors will be looking to change the team.

No matter how much Lawry wants change.

No, but the perceived upside of backing in Lab until he comes out of the form slump is superior to the alternatives.

Unless McSweeney starts averaging 55 in Shield cricket then Lab stays.

I hope they both play county.

Lab is, not sure who else is.

Strange as it may seem…there’s a chance that having a break from the game will do Lab some good once this next test is over…just go out and play golf or something…and not pick up a bat for a few weeks.

One alternative is to drop Smiff to 3 and pick a specialist opener
