A CAPTAIN’S KNOCK!

This is sure to go down in the annals of cricket history and be spoken about for generations to come.

I reckon if you asked Steve Smith about the innings in two months time he won’t even remember it.

Oh he will and he would probably be able to give you a ball by ball recollection of every innings he has ever played

Matthew Mott chopped by the ECB barely 2 years since he took the job.

Last night it said that he had stood down but does seem like he was pushed

Of course he was pushed.

Good, he sucked.

He can go back to coaching womens cricket

I don’t know, he won a trophy with a limited overs program that’s been decidedly unders for silverware given their dominance in the format.

He won that tournament off the back of Morgan and Bayliss job of setting up the whole structure.

Soon as the team was his, it has gone massively downhill

“Massively”

Where massively actually means they just did basically the same thing they’d done previously… dominate the formats and not win tournaments.

Sorry, not buying it.

I think he inherited something that was on the way down and hadn’t achieved all it should’ve.

We didn’t make the knockouts in the previous ODI World Cup as defending champions

Got smashed in the semi’s of the last T20 WC

Yep, massively

Previous to that you got beaten in the Semi’s of the T20 WC in the UAE.

Not buying it.

And we looked the best team that tournament, but screwed up the final overs bowling, that was a very strong well oiled machine. It’s not anymore

That’s down to Mott, and to a lesser extent Buttler

Indeed, if you read this article it explains he was barely given a chance:

The Cricinfo article suggests Buttler is too rigid and that Mott is the fall guy. Fingers crossed this decision to let Mott go haunts your mob!

To be clear, letting go Mott ahead of Buttler is a complete no brainer, given Buttler is probably the best T20 batter in the world. We are without doubt in the age of sacking coaches to appease your star player, not the other way around. Pat Cummins and Co are nodding in agreement.

But don’t go sucking yourself off like they’ve done anything but push Mott under the bus for a side that’s under achieved over an extended period of time!

Nobody could have watched us these past two tournaments and thought, yep that coach knows what he is doing

His team selections have been woeful

So why is Luke Wright still in the job? He’s the selector not Mott.

Selections have been poor, but so have how the team has been set out. I don’t think Mott and Buttler have any clue as to what their best 11 is. Look at all the chopping and changing they have done during tournaments.
