His wife has confirmed that he died by suicide.

The full story is really tragic. He first attempted suicide 2yrs ago. Just devastating all round for his family. One never knows what someone is suffering through.

Had the pleasure to meet Thorpe at Lords way back, when Flintoff was still playing. Think it was Day 1 of a Test against Pakistan and heā€™d by then retired and was doing hospitality for us minions. Ex players would drop in and chat etc. whilst we lot were fine dining and drinking.

I remember two things of that day.

One. Flintoff during the warm up in the nets in front of us was the scariest bowler Iā€™d thought anyone had to front up to. No way you could see the ball.

And two. Graham Thorpe was a true gentleman. He spent at least 10 minutes at our table (and there were a few tables to get around) answering questions, talking about certain innings heā€™d played, teammate anecdotes etc. and just seemed a really good guy.

But I do recall wondering what went on behind that worried brow and serious face he mostly had. Not that I nor anyone realised how large a toll his marriage breakup and all those months of touring back then had taken.

Really sad.

Yeah, itā€™s really horrific, the things that must have been going on in his head ā€¦ Itā€™s just so sad.

Kudos to his wife for opening up about in the hope it could help others.

From the Courier Mail

Queensland will not feature in Cricket Australiaā€™s plans for Test matches after next yearā€™s Ashes due to ongoing uncertainty over the future of the Gabba.

It is understood a seven-year schedule of Test matches due to be unveiled within days locks in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide until the 2030-31 season.

I know a couple of the state associations were ganging up on Perth so interesting to see that they are no longer on the guaranteed list.
The MCG and AO can share their test too :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Stokes out of the rest of the English summer with a torn hammy he did playing in the hundred.

England v Sri Lanka at Old Trafford, SL won the toss, elected to bat and are 3/6. Angelo Mathews with a contender for one of the worst referrals in Test history.

chandimal lbw to a worm burner.

Jay Shah to be appointed next chairman of the ICC.

The international game is well and truly in its death throesā€¦

Sad times. Heā€™s also vocally said all world cups recently held other than the one in India were poor. The BCCI take over of cricket basically done.

I mean, itā€™d already happened, this is largely a formality.

But heā€™ll be the bloke to turn off the life support.

Pucovski has officially hung 'em up.

Sad that he was never in a position to fulfil his obvious talent.

Hope his post cricket life is a happy one.

feels about 5 years over due

Yeah that was always on the cards. He was getting hit in some pretty concerning ways for a top order batsman at first-class level. Will be one of the biggest ā€œwhat if?ā€ careers in Australian cricket history. But Iā€™m glad this has happened, one more hit couldā€™ve done irreparable damage.

2nd Test at Lordā€™s between England and Sri Lanka. A very negative move by the tourists to send England in. Good pitch and sunny conditions, ideal for batting. Makeshift opener Dan Lawrence, in for the injured Zac Crawley, dismissed cheaply already, Ollie Pope looking all at sea so far against a hostile spell of bowling from Kumara. He has the breakthrough.

Popeā€™s shot to get out should see him dropped from the team. For a captain to play that shot is inexcusable.

Duckettā€™s was arguably worse. Bazball in full effect!

A reverse sweep before lunch in day 1. :man_facepalming:

Only Sri Lanka but that Gus Atkinson seems to be at home at test level. A 5fa and a ton in the same match. Thereā€™d be some pretty handy players amongst the list of guys to have done that.

Joe Root would be feeling a bit hard done by.

Itā€™s not often that a bloke making a century in both innings doesnā€™t win the POTM award.
