Nahh, that genie is out of the bottle and the lid is at the bottom of the ocean.
It ain’t happening.
It’s not an unpopular take, I think most people fall on the side that international duties should be a higher priority than domestic T20 comps. But the reality is those days are gone and never coming back.
I just don’t see that working.
Yes tests are the pinnacle still for most but at best there are about 14 spots to play for at the highest level so you can understand why guys chase the coin. It’s also often a very short career so players need to cash in while they can. Trav for instance will make $3m for a months work in the IPL next year and he honestly doesn’t know how long his career will last so he is setting his family up.
I said this a while back but the opposite to what you suggested will end up happening and that is that you will be contracted to a IPL franchise for 12 months per year and they will dictate to you what other T20 leagues, Sheffield Shoeld etc you can play
The IPL sold its TV (etc) rights for $US 6.2bn over five years. It is the single biggest challenge for the long form game. Personally I cannot see a way around the knock on effect it and lesser forms of the white ball (money ball???) game impose on Test (and our domestic Shield) prospects.
That said, India seems to be able to straddle both formats. Something different in their approach? Selection policy. Or is it just the billion extra people to choose from?
And yet we recently beat India in the WTC and only very recently India got trounced 3-0 at home and everyone was calling for a complete overhaul of the game in India.
We definitely have concerns but I think we can overcome them
I read it’s not only me questioning Pat’s preparation. He played no first class games prior to the first test and opted out of the third ODI (was resting up). He said he preferred to be underdone? This is not only hubris but it’s simply nuts. Our captain prefers to be under done. No Pat you need to be ready not under done.
His preparation and that of the team has been a shambles. Shame on CA and the coaches because they are equally to blame along with the players.
Given Marn is cooked, Head looks under done same with Marsh and Smith, then how Australia can recover from this humiliation for the remainder of the series is beyond comprehension. I can see us getting humbled in Adelaide. Maybe the team should play an internal Australia vs Australia A game next weekend? Less golf and Coldplay and more cricket/preparation.
Which is absolutely crazy given he said he was underdone. If Pat and the selectors think he can just turn up to the first test without a first class match under his belt then we need a new coach, selectors and captain. It’s either hubris or complete stupidity
Hook shots.
In the second over of the day.
The Australian heads are completely scrambled.
Anyone heard of “getting your eye in” or “blunting the new ball”?
Or are those concepts outdated?
