The Cricket Thread (part 9) - from Dec 2024

He’s copped a bit (and rightfully so of late), Usman. But he averages 50+ at the top of the order across 70 innings. That’s very good going. Been a remarkable turnaround to his career.

Why do these blokes keep appealing when the ball is pitching 2 foot outside leg stump?

Is Sri Lankan cricket that strapped that they can’t manage a spare clean shirt to replace the ones covered in dirt?

Benefited from being near the Caulfield campus of Monash.

And I hope people watching understand why you can’t be LBW if it pitches outside leg. So boring when the bowlers adopt that practice.

One thing I’d change though is that just have pitched partly inside the line of leg…maybe 25% rather than 55% odd at present.

Pakistan were generating opportunities every 5 overs or so before resorting to the boredom tactic.

If you are bowling this negatively surely the umpire should be calling wides for anything down leg side.

Looks like they’re bowling negatively until the new ball is available

This strategy would work well against Head or someone who can’t help themselves. I’m sure Smith isn’t in any rush.

The umpire has the right, if they feel the bowling is negative, to inform the bowler that they will apply ODI wide standards to the bowling.

Putting ourselves into a commanding position. We really should set ourselves to bat once this Test.

His record is imposing in all conditions. Thanks to this knock he now averages over 50 in 7 different countries. Averages 54 away from home and 59 in Australia. Very little you can pick at and say that he struggles in a specific area or conditions.

lol.
Someone on FB had a go at him for not scoring a ton in Pakistan.
He has three fifties from four innings.

Fun little reverse sweep from Khawaja…

Kerry O’Keeffe says he’s the best slow pitch batter he’s seen. On a surface like this he can dig in and bat for a day and a half.
