The Dog Thread

Yeah, it really is, mate.
First time I heard it, I thought he was chocking on something - stuck my fingers down his throat, poor guy :frowning:

Just a long haired border collie Captain

Just ordered two of them for my two labrador þitches.

Stuff this prissy yankee swear filter. This is the Dog Thread — B-I-T-C-H is a technical term here ffs !

Good stuff, they will love them, very sturdy and well put together.

L&P, your neighbours might not be as bad as you think.

I had a black lab and a heeler and they both preferred sleeping on the back door mat rather than in their beds. We have a new pup and I just came in and he was sleeping beside his new bed and at the moment you can just open the screen door with him lying them but soon he will have to move to let us in or out. At least he sleeps on the bed about half the time.

I agree - of all our dogs our labs often chose the concrete. My concern is that you can see both sides of their house from the road - both concrete-and no sign of anything for the dog who’s always laying there when they’re not home. I don’t know his history so maybe he never wanted a bed either.
Your pup is gorgeous.

I’d say the bed is too warm for him in the summer. My two sleep on the hard floor in hot weather, but as soon as we get a cool night they’re back to their beds.

Nice-looking lab pup, btw. He’s not asleep, though…

Do you guys find your dog doesn’t sleep well during a full moon or when there’s a bit of light outside?

Ours just starts wandering around the house looking for a ball and wanting to go out and play.

Going to upgrade the blinds to block out just in case

Blloody hell ! Feed them separately ! And feed the yellow lab outside…

Maybe he has a bed out the back but waits in the drive so that he is first to know that they are home, but you might be right that he isn’t getting looked after properly.

You are probably right Perce, but our old lab didn’t bother and just slept on the door mat year round.

We haven’t had a hot summer here and this little guy just rotates around where him and his toys sleep.

We went away for a few days to visit Mrs Fox’s sister in Wollongong; had not seen her for over two COVID years. Left our Malamute with local boarding kennel; and had call early yesterday that she had GDV (Gastric dilatation and volvulus) wherestomach twists upon itself so that both the entrance and exit of the stomach become blocked. This is a life-threatening emergency that requires urgent surgery to correct.

Super viligent Lady at Boarding Kennel knew what to do and immediately took Emmie to Vet where she was X-ray and operation followed. Can kill a dog within hours if not treated. We are home and Emmie is resting, no idea on the cause, could be anxiety at being away from home, food, exercise; no real idea just theories. She should be 100% in a week.

So sorry to hear this Bacchus. Hope Emmie recovers quickly. So pleased that your boarding kennel staff were on the ball. Had a good friend whose Weimaraner had the same surgery with an excellent outcome.

Good luck BF and Emmie, I’m really glad the kennel manager was on the ball.

That’s one of my personal nightmares - Penny’s breed is very prone to it (very fast, very skinny waist) and I’m hyper careful about no exercise immediately before/after feeds etc. But if a dog 100% decides it’s going to go bananas and sprint all over the house like a maniac, there’s not much you can do about it…

Yes, similar worries for our Dobe. We were vigilant also but sometimes things happen beyond your control.

Silvia who owns the Boarding Kennel breeds labs and she knows more about dogs than any Vet we know. Not a great talker with people but speaks all dog languages.

Our Vet, who did the surgery, said Silvia called and was given appointment by the nurse for a few hours away, but Silvia demanded and got immediate action.

Emmie is resting ok and should be good in a few days.

I knew nothing about GDV, seems it is a common and serious matter in big dogs.

That dog is not chewing a damned thing… daresay anxious about the other dog being fed at the same time, or just wanting to get to the other bowl as well.

There’s a lot more stupid people than stupid dogs…

Lost my old hound Wally this morning. Died in his sleep at 9.30. Feeling a little empty right now.

Sorry to hear that, Boot. I’ll bet he was dreaming of happy times with you while he was sleeping.
