A man charged with kicking a dog during a vaccine mandate protest will fight a charge of animal cruelty and argue he acted in self-defence and that the animal was aggressive, a court has heard.
Stipo Cicak faces one count of committing an act of cruelty on an animal after the RSPCA charged him following an incident in Melbourne on September 20 last year, which happened during a protest outside the head office of construction union the CFMEU.

Video footage showed a man in white shoes confront another man, who had hold of the dog’s lead, outside the CFMEU’s Elizabeth Street office. The man in white shoes kicked the dog, lifting the animal into the air, but it landed on its feet.
It is not known whether the dog was injured.
Mr Cicak’s case went before Melbourne Magistrates Court on Wednesday, when magistrate Tara Hartnett referred to documents and said the 41-year-old planned to plead not guilty and argue he acted in self-defence.
Ms Hartnett asked the lawyers if Mr Cicak feared the dog or another person, and prosecutor Natalie Perera, acting for the RSPCA, replied: “It is their [the accused and his lawyers’] position that the dog was aggressive.”
Mr Cicak, of Keilor East, faces being jailed for up to one year or fined up to $45,000 if found guilty of the charge.
It was not clear whether he watched Wednesday’s online hearing as the magistrate did not ask for his appearance. Mr Cicak’s case is to return to court on March 17.
The accused’s name says it all when it comes to anti-vaxxers. Deserves to be jailed with a maximum sentence.
His punishment should be that he wears a meat suit, and is forced to run through a paddock full of angry police German Shepherds.
Try kicking them, you ■■■■■■■ deadbeat.
I’ve been taking Gus, our greyhound, to the local off leash park of an evening. When there were no other dogs around I let him off for a run. The last couple of times there’s been other dogs and their owners were fine for Gus to play with them. He runs around like a mad dog with them for about ten minutes then comes back and stands near me when he’s had enough. He’s now made three new dog friends and I’m a very proud mum.
Yep She is going ok. Feeding her six small meals a day and keeping her quiet.
I recently changed her diet to a dry food called ORIJEN, and now a bit unsure if that was part of the issue. We had a holiday booked for two weeks in September, but Mrs Fox wants to cancel and not let Emmie out of our sight.
Anyone have any thoughts on dog food. Our Vet is strongly against raw meat, favours cooked chicken and Hills Dry food.
Cooked chicken ? No. Cooked chicken bones are dangerous — they splinter. Raw bones are good for dogs. Give her raw chicken wings. My two, now 8 1/2, have been eating raw chicken wings since they were six weeks old. One wing a day. Very good for them, and they love them more than anything.
Nothing wrong with Hills, except its price…
I’m so glad to hear she’s improving. I have heard that when this operation is performed that they often sew the intestine so that it cannot flip again. May be worth asking your vet.
I do understand Mrs Fox’s feelings… we eventually didn’t holiday without the dogs as we spent more time worrying about them than enjoying the holiday.
We used to feed chicken necks - the bones in them are small & soft. I’m guessing your vet means cooked chicken meat, not bones. I’m sure there’ll be good advice here on diet. (& I’m sure there’ll be chat & advice on Google about it ).
Hope she continues to recover well.
Yep it is called gastropexy where they attach the stomach to the abdominal wall. Vet says this help but does not mean it cannot happen again.
Vets are sponsored by dry food companies. Raw is the way! PM me if you want some links etc
I’ve been happy with Ivory Coat.
And a couple of frozen chicken necks.
