The Dog Thread

Don’t know about dry skin but we used to give our old shepherd a tin of sardines about 4 times a week to help with his arthritis. Our boy now has a tin at least once a week. And at 99cents at Coles a cheap treat :grinning:

To help pass the time whenever I go for a long walk, I keep count of the number of dogs that bark at me for having the sheer audacity to walk past their house.

Today was a new record - nineteen outraged canines in the space of one hour. Of course, one dog having their say will often set others off.

I used to know someone with a malamute who slept under their bed but whenever he got up in the night he lifted it up when getting out.

Don’t know all the ins and outs but for a year or 2 down here there’s been a bit of rumble between a breeder and the RSPCA. Turns out there’s 250 Labradoodles to be taken off the breeder. Mrs TH has contacted them to say we’ ll foster one. I’ll post more news as it comes in. 250! That’s a big pack of furballs.

one of my friends (some here would know Megan from BomberTalk days) is involved with an animal rescue that will be looking after some of them too.

That is a big breeder. More like a puppy farm which are very bad places

Was a farm. Settled out of court and permanently shut down now.

On the upside, labradoodles are generally in huge demand, so it shouldn’t be a huge problem finding them permanent homes after the fosters have taken care of them a while, sorted out health and trust issues etc.

250 American staffies would be a tougher sell.

Reportedly the offers of homes have been over subscribed.
There was a report that it would cost over $1k to test the dogs health and behaviour by vets etc.

1000$ per dog minimum but RSPCA hoping for $300,000 to cover it all. As mentioned Mrs TH has put us forward as foster/ adopter of one and with a smile on her face said " Oh, and I made a donation as well".
Apparently made the news on the big island so I won’t update unless we get one of the 250 :slightly_smiling_face:

Got a reply from RSPCA re the Labradoodles. Are we still interested? YES says she who must be obeyed. Turns out they’re between 1 to 3 yo. Not toilet trained, hardly any human contact, food thrown into the pens, very timid, as you’d expect and quite a few with health problems. Some already fostered out and doing nicely. Waiting on the next call.
